I've had a lightbulb moment this year!!! We've got 4 and usually spend about £400 on EACH of them (I know, I know :o !!) and as above, they haven't got a scooby about the value of things.

This year, they've been told since about January that they've got a maximum of £100 each, and I'm definitely sticking to it!! :A However, I've been padding it out by making things for them from the Crafts Thread (money box, knitted cushion, cross-stitch picture, personalise photo album of recent hols etc.) and buying BNWT things from ebay for their stockings
  • well this year will be the most easiest for me as i have three girls ranging from 10 - 16 and they are all into fashion, admittedly it will cost me alot but then its just all well known brands.

i would hate to sound really sad but after this weekend i hope to have finished all my xmas shopping and be able just to sit back and wait for it to come round.
i will also get it wrapped during the week and the rest is just plain sailing.

for some reason this year they dont want very much and they have only asked for one thing, but being a parent i cant just buy them one thing. this year its only going to cost me around £100 per child.

I'm afraid jellyhead- i agree with your friends, your bonkers! :rotfl: my hubbys family give us xmas money as a couple and it is spent as a couple. last year we bought a new tv with it. I'd be buggared if he would go on holiday on his own with our xmas money. I'm guessing their going to portaventura in salou?? why not split the money 50/50 you can then give the ones left at home a nice day out while he enjoys the theme park.

:D we sometimes buy things for the house with it, last year was a new mattress for our bed. We can't split it, it will only just cover portaventura for him. We've been away this year and I said I don't want to take the toddler on a plane again for a while!

I have my birthday near christmas so I never want anything for christmas. If I took the money, or half then it would just go into the overdraft, and I thought it would be nice for him to have a treat, for the christmas money to actually be a present rather than towards the overdraft.

You still think I'm bonkers don't you :rotfl:

My son is only 1 and we'll probably spend about £50-£100 on him on books, dvds, and a couple of toys, my stepson is 9 and last year we spent a good £300 on him (wii, games, lego etc) and he doesn't touch any of it now so this year hes getting £50ish.

an old bike that used to belong to my eldest has surfaced in somebody's shed, so the youngest is riding that now. Looks like santa doesn't need to buy a bike, so youngest can have a pirate ship as his main present :T

I'm afraid I do a little:rotfl: I have the same problem with a birthday in December and so not really wanting anything- at the end of the day, I would see my hubby going away as a present in itself he can be a miserable beggar sometimes:rotfl: I'm going away in the half term actually with 2 of my kids & some friends- hubby can't come(working) so no different from your hubbys trip really.

  • I have a 2 1/2year old girl and i spend about £300 on her but i tell myself that its okay because i have only got one child and dont intend on having more but after reading these posts im defo gonna cut down on xmas next year (already done this years presents)
My OH has three grown up children who are 28, 25, and 22 and they all spend £1000 each on their children and they have have 2 kids each
I cant believe why they feel the need to do it because on xmas day the kids rip the stuff open and throw it to one side, complaining the next day they are bored.
They also have loans from everywhere to cover the cost
    Rediculous
