Youngest is off nursery today with a bad cold and cough, and I let him watch nick junior while i hopped online to find the phone number for nursery. There were loads of toy adverts and he just kept saying 'i wish i had that!'
The baby annabel looks very tempting for a little girl, glad i only have boys lol!
We're opposite to you this year, my husband wants to buy lots of things, and I'm saying no. 3 year old is getting a bike (£70 i think?), jigsaws, books and sticker books, an art caddy (£3.99 from wilkinsons) and hungry hippos. i know that his various grandparents are getting the ELC quarry (£30), diver set (£40) and dinosaur catcher (£15) and manic martians (there's an ELC theme here!). Somebody else is getting him a tool set from the studio catalogue sale.
Husband still wants to buy the playmobil pirate ship though, it's £60!! I pointed out a pirate ship reduced to £10 in the studio catalogue sale but he says it's rubbish
But he's a 3 year old kid, I think he's getting more than enough already! It's not about money really, I still wouldn't want him to have a mountain of toys even if we could afford it. He still has birthday presents he hasn't played with and the living room and his bedroom are full of toys. What I've bought him would be plenty even if he didn't have generous grandparents, surely
Perhaps our upbringings have affected the way we see christmas, husband is one of 2, and all of his relatives on have one or two children. everyone buys for everyone, and he gets gifts off people I have never met. we've been married for 7 years and my kids get gifts off people we've never met on his side of the family.
He is used to being showered with gifts, while I'm from a family of 4 and all my aunts etc. have lots of children so when I was a child we only got a present from the grandparents, not from aunts, cousins etc. and my parents didn't spend a huge amount because they had 4 children to spread their money between.52% tight0 -

How about this one http://www.thetoyshop.com/Toys/StarBuys/PreSchool/PRDOVR~246157/Playmobil++Blackbeards+Pirate+Ship+5736.jsp as a compromise? I've just got it to put away for DS2 birthday and got a couple of other playmobil pirate sets to go with it on Boots 3 for 2.
HTHSlightly worn out mum to 3 (DS1 May 03, DS2 Feb 05, DD1 Feb 08). When i grow up i think i'll become a UN Peace keeper....0 -
That's great! Thanks! :T (I thought there might be a cheaper one, husband has seen the £60 one in a catalogue that was in with the free paper)
I do want to buy it, but does everyone agree with me that he has enough already? I could buy it for his 4th birthday but that's not until summer. it says age 4+ though.
Are boys still pirate mad at age 4? He'll be starting school straight after that - do school kids still play with this sort of toy, or will they all be wanting action man or something like that? I know I have an older boy but he had developmental delay and he wasn't playing with toys yet at age 4.
edit, also found it for £20 on spmodels site, but postage is over £6. your link gives free postage if over £30 so i'll have a look around the star buys52% tight0 -
I dont you think you can beat Playmobil personally my 3 had a Playmobil coming out thier ears, Mansions, diggers cars, trucks of every description and still play with it religiously. Its long lasting and kids adore it.That's great! Thanks! :T (I thought there might be a cheaper one, husband has seen the £60 one in a catalogue that was in with the free paper)

Playmobil is for children aged 4+ because of all the tiny parts with some of the playsets. I only started buying it for my eldest when he turned 4. He played with it until he was 8, and DS2 can start playing with it next year, so well worth the money.:DCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. There's no rule - just do what you can afford, everyone's different.
In our family, we got lots of presents every year while we were living at home. Once we moved out, my mum has a £50 limit for us(and £50 for our OH's)
My brother goes and stays with my parents over christmas, and I had to tell her that that doesn't count as 'still living at home' so he should be cut back to £50 as well. Well, he is 25! :rotfl:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I dont have kids but my MIL still spends at least 600 quid on my hubby at xmas. As well main pressies she gets him a huge gift bag full of socks, one full of pants and one full of lynx deodarant. Enough to last him the whole year until next christmas. it's great means I don't have to buy them.
Hope you don't mind me asking...but what does she buy you??
I would feel pretty unappreciated if my OH was sitting with bags and bags of gifts and I was sitting there with one parcel(Unless we hadn't been together long, of course):D

My inlaws buy a gift for me and one for my husband, and they also give us money. They know that my husband spends it but the option for us to share it is there
This year some friends are going to a theme park in spain, just before christmas. We can't afford for us all to go, so I've said my husband should go without us, and share a room with other mates who are going on their own. His trip will be funded by the money his family give us as a couple for wedding anniversary and christmas. my family don't really give presents to adults, we get one gift each off my parents, but the money all comes from his side. I don't see why he shouldn't spend it if there's something he wants and nothing i want, but some of my friends think i'm bonkers for 'letting' him go on holiday alone, and letting him have all our christmas money.52% tight0 -
I'm afraid jellyhead- i agree with your friends, your bonkers! :rotfl: my hubbys family give us xmas money as a couple and it is spent as a couple. last year we bought a new tv with it. I'd be buggared if he would go on holiday on his own with our xmas money. I'm guessing their going to portaventura in salou?? why not split the money 50/50 you can then give the ones left at home a nice day out while he enjoys the theme park.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."
