While we are at it, might as well fill up the inbox of the Icelandic government. They've just opened an information centre!

Information center for the public, businesses and the media

14.10.2008
Due to the special circumstances on the Icelandic financial markets the Government of Icelandic has decided to open an information center for the public, businesses and the media, both in Iceland and abroad.
The purpose of the center is to receive enquiries by telephone or email, addressed to the Icelandic authorities regarding the current circumstances. The center receives queries and either addresses them directly or forwards them to the relevant administrative body.
The Media Center that has been in operation for the last week will continue to operate as needed. Media queries will be forwarded to the Media center. In addition the service and information website run by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Security will continue to operate on the website of the Government Offices of Iceland at: felagsmalaraduneyti.is/upplysingar.
The center is open between 8:00 and 22:00 each working day and can be reached by telephone, +354-545-8950 or email: infocenter@mfa.is.

My question: ...... sorry it's not printable (in English or whatever tongue they practise).

GOOD IDEA LETS GET HIM ON BOARD AND CAMERON TOO

Already mailed David Cameron and Alistair Darling. Wont bother with Gordon he will be far too bothered about his "hard working families" to bother with hard working peoples savings!

My mistake! But the question remains: do they know what day it is?

This whole mess is very frustrating!!! I too thought we were going to have an update from the FSCS by the end of today but no such joy. I have sent them an email asking for an update on/confirmation that they will be sending forms to us (I feel as if I should be doing something!). No reply as yet.

Just logged onto the Icesave website again - can still view my ISA. Good idea to print off a statement as proof of the account if you haven't already folks.

...and so begins another weekend of wondering - lets all try to chill out and try our bests to trust the FSCS and Govt in getting our money back... mines a vodka

Were I to ask a question of the Icelandic government it would be:

On what legal basis did the government receivers of Landsbanki decide to selectively freeze some depositors' accounts?

Another observation regarding the disquiet about how long things are taking at the FSCS:
1. if the FSCS weren't dealing with the entire claim, we'd all have to file claims with the icelandic authority. Do you think they'd be awfully quick in paying us, given the whole country appears to be bancrupt, and given Haarde's scathing remarks over the last couple of weeks?
2. some people will get a lot more than the £50K normally guaranteed
In light of this, and given that the FSCS have so far kept all their promises, I think it is really a bit premature to go complaining now. However, each to their own.

I think people are not really complaining - just wanting an update to put minds at rest! (but I do get your point)
