If I had to choose just one, I'd choose the Skoda every time.

The Seats ok, but nothing like the Skoda.

Have been looking around & this seems like a good car/deal - decent level of equipment, 11k, 0% interest for 3 years and 70mpg.

I only want a small car, have a Polo at the mo and the economy on the Seat is 2nd to none, which is v important to me as I do around 21,000 a year, 3/4 of which not reimbursed.

    2 questions:
    1. Does anyone have experience of owning a Seat, particularly one similar to this?
    2. Any idea of price flexibility? (Or does anyone know when their month or 1/4 ends;)?)

(3rd question - Martin, if you're reading this would you like to negotiate for me please :o)

    Thanks all.

At a glance across the figures, if you view the real cost of the Ibiza Ecomotive vs. the equivalent Polo Bluemotion across 36 months they both work out about the same.
Over 36 months assuming you pay list price the Ibiza is projected to loose 6857 in depreciation, the Polo looses 6599. The Ibiza 0% finance deal saves you about £400 in interest payments vs. the 7.9% APR you get on the Polo, but the Polo is being offered with a £375 discount right now.
I recon you could get at or near £1000 off these cars on top of any other deals going.
Forget the fact the Polo has a higher purchase price, it's not relevant in the long run.
Here are some words to use:
"I'm looking for a 10% discount off the on the road price (important) on this car and I really don't want to have to leave here and spend time shopping around for it, but I will if I have to. I will sign a deal today if I see the right price."
The salesman is not likely to want to let you get out of there without signing a deal.
Be totally confident and calm and look the salesman in the eye if you can. He will wonder off for a while and get authorisation for the deal and probably come back with some other discount offer. I really do think 8% or walk away.
December is not only end of quarter but also end of year, they will have sales volume bonuses to earn and you can bet they are struggling to reach them right now. Orders placed now should be delivered by the end of year so should qualify for their bonuses.
Don't go by What Car target prices, you can do miles better than that.
I got 8% off a new BMW order for my mother recently, mind you this was a £30K list price car, not a circa £10K car.

The new Fabia model looks very good.

  • I nearly had one of the new Seat 1.4s a couple of weeks ago but my name didn't win the draw when I renewed my tax online :rotfl:
On a more serious note however, I had a Toledo tdi when they first came out some years ago and I found it to be excellent, lots of goodies on it for a basic price. Two Fabias and an Octavia down the line, I am still with V.A.G. but now that they have established themselves with market share, I reckon that they are pricing themselves out of my affordability range.
I'll have to get round to having a look at the new offering from Kia.

Thanks for all your replies, especially Adrian. Are you free next weekend ;).

I got as far as sitting in an Ibiza at the weekend - couldn't have test drive as didn't have licence (hadn't planned on going to garage, but found out there was one near friends). I liked it, but was offered only £1500 for my car (5 yr old Polo, admittedly done 122,000 and has a fair few scratches to show for it :o, although no bumps). This was at price of 11k, when I said Perry's had for 10k he had an 'am I bothered' face on, so don't think I'll be back there. Admittedly, I did say I wasn't going to sign anything on the spot as I'd no intentions of buying a car I hadn't driven. I thought he might miraculously find a way to let me have a test drive but no. EDIT: Plus he said they don't do it in 'mid life crisis yellow' but they do.

I will look at the blumotion as I am fond of my little Polo :o. No car tax on SEAT though, so that's another £120.

TBH, if I don't get a deal I'm happy with I'm not buying anyway, so I'm prepared to be quite gung ho & walk away.

steady-eddie, maybe that car has my name on it as tax is due for renewal :D
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
