Eco-Fan.

Anyone advise if they are any good??? Hopefully my woodburner will arrive next week, will be a learning curve if heat will distribute to where I am hoping it will, but read the spec and, at around £70-ish a pop, which I don't mind parting with, as long as it pushes some heat around?

Ta in advance.

  • I have a Heatwave stove top fan and I am very happy with it. It makes a big difference circulating the heat to the other downstairs rooms in the house.
The Ecofan does the same job but works on a different principle, using a peltier element to generate electricity to power a small motor, while the Heatwave uses a stirling engine. The Heatwave shifts a lot more air then the Ecofan, but has a quiet ticking sound when operating, as far as I know the Ecofan is virtually silent.

Would you tell us more about the use of these fans, please?

I run a stove that sits in a very large inglenook. The air in the inglenook is always warm, long before the room is and on really cold days it's hard not to feel that the spiders who live in the inglenook are the ones getting the best of the warmth!

Do you think one of these would be be sufficient to push some of the air out into the room? The websites I can find don't actually go into any detail about what they are supposed to do - they seem more concerned with explaining how they work.

Thanks, Poppycat. I had found that site, but curiously, it doesn't really go into a lot of detail about the effect of using one and that's what I was hoping to get from here - someone who is living with one saying how effective, or otherwise, they found i.t.
  • I have been looking at these aswell but I don't think we've got enough room at the top of the stove

    There is also this one

Thanks for all replies, I do like the spec of the stirling fan, reads that it moves a lot more air around than eco-fan and, I can live with a little clicking, plus life time guarantee can't be bad at all!

Thanks for heads up on this one coaster, much appreciated.

I'm thinking of getting one of these.

We have a multi fuel stove and burn coal/smokeless coal and wood.

I can't find any decent information on google.

Our home is three floors high with two rooms on each floor. Currently the stove heats the first floor very well, the 2nd floor acceptable but not hot and it takes the chill off the top floor if we have it on full blast but we'd like it a bit warmer without having to hammer the fuel.

Would the eco fan help to warm up the 2nd and 3rd floor?

If so, can anyone recommend a place to buy from. The prices i've seen so far are around the £100 mark but if anyone knows of anyone doing a special deal can they let me know please.

    Cheers.
  • Hi,
I have used an Eco-fan for over 2 years on a narrowboat. Yes it does work. It takes the heat from the multi-fuel stove and distributes in around the boat. It will always be hotter by the stove, but the bedroom gets aired and warmed too. Lots of us boaters use these fans. Just remember to put it somewhere safe before setting sail. If it falls off the stove or gets dropped it will soon develope a tickity-ticking noise that may
    1) let you know whether the stove is still in without getting out of bed (known as cup half full)
    2) drive you mad with the noise (known as cup half empty)
    Cheers,
    Baddie

I also have an Eco Fan and I wouldnt be without it now!! I use far less coal than I used and there are no cold spots anymore. I would reccommend the fan with 3 arms over the fan with 2 as I have been told they work better with 3. I have no complaints, well worth the money.:j
  • I too have been trying to find outmore about these, i have a double sided stove with limited footprint on top of the stove due to a low canopy
would one of these work for me????
    thank you
