  • I have no worries about them now, not like I had all summer. Just keep under 50K in although there is talk of this figure rising;)
  • Yes just remember not to bank with Abbey, ASDA or Cahoot as well if you want to be guaranteed the 50k. Its 50k across this group

I regard them as safe, and they still have one of the easiest to use websites.

I already had their Internet Saver (issue 3) and decided this week that I'd like to lock in some money into one of their 1 year eBonds. I just logged into my existing account, then opened the new account specifying how much money I wanted to transfer across from the existing account. Next morning, all done and new eBond account showing with the transfer in place.

None of this rubbish like you get with A&L ... "Oh sorry sir, even though you've got an existing account we'll have to insist on you resupplying your proofs of identity for money laundering purposes" ... what a load of spherical objects!

There's a few organisations out there who could learn a thing or two about B&B processes and internet usage. Very slick.

  • That's interesting because i tried to transfer a fair amount from an old notice account into one of their 'internet saver' accounts which was set up some time ago.

guess what, they wrote to me and said
"We are sorry, we are unable to action your request as we do not have the facility to make transfers directly to eSavings accounts."

so i'll be pulling mine and putting it elsewhere, not for safety reasons though.
but the op should be ok, no problems for him opening a new account
and, apart from that one issue, they have been efficient, i've received emails and written letters to my accounts, the letters bearing the new Abbey/Santander logo as well as B&B.
