Maybe the company just put it on the wrong fence as it's a guy in a flatbed truck with loads of EA boards in the back? Innocent mistake? I must admit I got bored halfway down and skipped to the end of your first post as it was starting to get a bit trivial.

My parents live in a very nice house in a nice area. Their house is on the corner of the cul-de-sac next to the road. Every few weeks a different Estate Agent puts up a For Sale sign. They attach it to the road name sign which stands on a grass bank. Although it is public property on the grass bank the Council never cut it and my dad tends to it.

The cul-de-sac only has 12 houses and they are all long term residents and all very good friends - so no-one is selling up. The result of these signs is that numbskull Joe and Josephine Public keep ringing my parents doorbell for a viewing thinking the house is for sale.

Every 2 weeks I strim the grass bank and when I get to the sign my petrol strimmer accidentally cuts through the cable ties holding the For Sale sign up against the road sign.:D

We've made complaints to the Estate Agents who feign ignorance and I've told them that the next sign gets shoved through their window or up their jacksy. :A

Hmm, could be deemed as a form of harrassment. I'd keep a log for 3-6 months, then issue a complaint along the lines of the EA(s) action leading to persistent disruption and that any further actions may result in action under the prevention of harrassment laws. A complaint to any membership bodies might work too, once you've gathered evidence.

EA makes a mistake, you call, they promise to rectify as soon as they can and you start posting horror stories on the interweb?

Seriously, Snoooz. Calm down and don't be so melodramatic. Come back in three days if they refuse to take the sign down. Then you have a story. For the time being you have a company that seems to have made a mistake and have said they will fix it. Nothing mroe to be seen here for the time being.

Im with Riq......whats with all the people jumping on the vigalantee bandwagon here? Its probably an innocent mistake...take it down, let them take it away! No real harm done.

Considering that most E.As actually contract out to signage companies to erect thier boards, which costs them £8-£15 per board to be put up and taken down - and considering that most E.As dont have the brass to rub together at the moment, I highly doubt that it was done on purpose.

Its not the end of the world......

Estate agents flagrantly DO put up signs on properties they do not market. I know this as I was an ea once, and we got the contract to sell for a vendor, and as I drove up to do a viewing Foxtons had taken our board down and erected thier own in its place. Later found from the vendor that they didnt choose foxtons as their representative seemed " too gung ho"

So I phoned them up with a "I was just passing and I saw you have X house up for sale just wondering how many beds it is and how much" At this they promptly asked all my details ( I knew how much we were marketing for so said I had AIP for 500k - def more than the house was worth) and they talked me through it, to the point where they even said " there is an offer on the table the vendor is considering, but I can still show you round" God knows how as they didnt have the keys.

I then told trading standards of this, but not sure what happened next.

My sister works dfor trading standards and states that she has seen a rise ( from nothing to a few,) of these sorts of enquiries.

After all EAs are slashing thier media advertising, its much cheaper to pay the board co for putting the sign up than it is for a newspaper advert.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • How much does it cost for one of these boards to be made? I recon £10 for the For Sale board it's self and maybe £5 for the length of wood it's fastened to.

I'd say it's worth 'losing' these boards, so they've been put to the expense of sending an agent out to erect it and also to replace it.
I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.

    I've heard that it's more like £100 a board.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Depends on the type of board, £20-50 seems to be the 'norm'. Depending on which part of the country a contractor will charge £10-25 to erect the board.

If you see boards that are tied to lamp posts or street signs report them to your local council. It soon gets them shifted.
