My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey
  • Ours are:

    1. Xmas CD's playing while we decorate the tree....which always goes up on Dec 1st.
    2. WE watch lots of Xmas DVD's & Play Xmas songs at home & in the car for the whole of December.
    3. We always have a buffet tea on Xmas Eve, before we go to the family service at the village church.
4.The girls always get a new pair of PJ's on Xmas Eve.
    5. Stockings are always opened on our bed on Xmas Morning.
    6. We always have croissants & pain au chocolat for breakfast on Xmas morning.
    7. I always by a pavlova for pud after Xmas dinner, as only hubby likes Xmas Pud ;)

We spend Xmas Day at home, just the four of us, so we do the family present swap on Xmas Eve.
  • My traditions are:

    1. I'm part polish, and since forever we celebrate Wigila on Christmas Eve, all my family comes round, my mum cooks polish food which is all fish and seafood and meat is not allowed!
    2. I open a present on Christmas Eve!
    3. To go down the west end and do my own shopping (shove the ipod in and get on with it. Also go shopping with my best friend each year.
    4. In our family we wait until after Christmas dinner to open our presents, reinforces the idea it's not all about present hehe!
    5. To do mine, my mum's and my boyfriend's wrapping in one go, put the evening aside, have too many mince pies and ice cream, put the telly on and wrap for england!
    6. Help mum buy the Christmas tree, I love having a real tree :)
And this year I'm going to add another one or two, i.e. going to the xmas markets in hyde park and going to a carol concert at st pauls :)

Every Monday night in December leading up to the BIG day we spend the evening make treats to put in the freezer for the holiday time, truffles, special pastry mince pies cheese cake chocolate mosaic, lamb and apricot meatballs chicken in a bun etc. Then when the time comes we have all the treats ready trouble is managing to get some of the peppermint creams in a box before husband pinches them

Christmas eve Carol concert about 7pm when children were little they always went in pj's this is an idea used by many parents still. Then home for chinese takeaway, Shloer and Roses chocolates

  • Hi
We have only been married for just over 3 years so dont have many traditions yet...
But the ones we do have have mostly come from when i was a child.
    - i never work on christmas eve always take a days holiday, i am lucky i can do this in my job.
-we always open a little present on christmas eve, something silly.
-we always buy a board game to play over christmas.
-my hubby goes to collect the fresh turkey on christmas eve.
-even though i am nearly 30 i still have an advent calendar and buy one for my mum and hubby[ although he just looks a little bemused]
-we always have christmas at home, we only have a small family.
-we eat something totally un christmas on christmas eve, this year chicken rogan josh which i coo, as hubby does not let anyone near his turkey on christmas day.
just typing this is making me excited.

We don't have many traditions as our boys are little but I am putting together a Xmas Eve box of goodies and I hope to do this every year - includes new pjs, Xmas DVD, reindeer food, letter from Santa, mix in a jar to make biscuits for Santa, Xmas bedtime story...

We have Advent calendars - one each for the boys and one for us grown ups! We've got ones that you keep year on year and pop your own bits in the pockets.
We decorate the tree together. My 4yo decided what decorations to put where last year and our tree looked odd with lots of baubles in some places and bare in others but we loved it.
We leave something homemade out for Santa on a festive plate on Xmas Eve. Last year we made mince pies on Xmas Eve but this year we are going to bake biscuits.
The boys have stockings in their rooms and this year I'm doing one for the OH too!
We take the boys out in the car at night near to Xmas so they can see everyone's outdoor lights.
We've got quite a collection of festive stories so I will gather them together a couple of weeks before Xmas and we can read a different one each night in the run up to the big event!

  • Our kids have new PJ,s to wear on xmas eve and get to choose a present from a relative from under the tree to open before bedtime. We put out a plate of refreshments for santa and rudolph too, usually an apple or carrot for the reindeer and santa in our house likes to have a bottle of classic coke with his picture on and a twix.He used to have sherry but DD said when she was 3 she thought santa may get drunk before he finished work so we should switch to something non alcoholic instead.
