To be fair some folk have trouble holding knives and peelers and other utensils -arthritis, visual impairment, the elderly. Ready-prepared mash must be a Godsend for some.0

I was about to say the same thing thriftlady :T0 -
I get told off by my OH for staring at peoples trollies at the check out, I'm all open mouthed and google eyed when I see them stuffed full of chocolate, pop, crisps, pizza etc. and no 'stuff that actually grows'
I'm a big fan of making as much as I can from scratch, purely because I like to know what I'm eating, and what has happened to it in the process. I have seen too many under cover documentaries about convenience food packing factories and the horrors that occur.
I've had to learn for myself as mom bless her is an awful cook and never really has cooked much - even though she'd say otherwise  However, I wouldn't ever slate anyone for not having the same attitude as me (us).
I do think it is a shame though how people have lost all the skills that were so common place."People buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like" - Clive Hamilton on Consumerism.0 -
Also I saw on Market kitchen that a supermarket is selling ready boiled & peeled eggs, only excuse for that is I guess if you live in a house with no cooker, microwave............
Particularly good if you are out and about and on Atkins or another low carb diet.
There really is very little for those of us who ( try!!) to do atkins & similar. its all sandwiches/ wraps/ cakes/ crisps/ pasties for on the go food. Occasionally I can find a supermarket with a rotisserie for chicken peices, but if I cant find one of them Its a pot of cottage cheese & A plastic fork:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Frozen Bubble & Squeak just makes me laugh! I love bubble and squeak, but basically you are paying for sunday lunch leftovers!
I had to raise my eyebrow at my mother recently - frozen Yorkshire Puds, which take the same amount of time to cook as home-made...... she was forgiven though, when she produced her homemade crumble & custard!:A FLY FIRST, KNIT LATER :A0 -
We have bough pre made jelly pots before. About 8 in total Because we needed some pots to make jelly in. We just by the mega cheap 8p jelly and reuse the pots.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090

Crisps. What are they for?
My mom buys grated cheese, I asked if it was more expensive and she said no. I believed her for 5 minutes.......then bought her a grate 'n' store.
The little jellies, well I don't nuy them but I think I would if they were cheaper. There's only me and hubby, and he won't eat a jelly.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I can't think of that many things that make me think "why would anybody buy that?"
The thing about grated cheese is that sometimes it does work out the same price as non-grated (especially mozzarella, for some reason). If I have the choice of grated or non-grated, and I need it for grating purposes anyway, and they're roughly the same price by weight, I'll definitely buy the grated. I've never bought ready-grated cheddar (the non grated stuff always has a longer date, for a start).
As for bought ice cubes, they are handy if you're having a house party and are going to need more ice for chilling drinks than your freezer can manage - or if you're having a picnic and want chilled drinks.
And in many cases the Finest/Taste the Difference stuff really is much better quality than Value, especially on things like meat. I often buy decent meat (Finest brand, free-range and/or organic) when yellow stickered, but wouldn't buy a lot of the Value meat at full price...Operation Get in Shape

prepared veg, grated cheese, ready meals bought pies and pasties with heaven knows what in them:eek:
I work ft and still manage to find time to slice some beans! I do buy good quality meat though, and prefer to avoid the very cheapest. Value tinned tomatoes, loo rolls and things like that though, what is the difference0
