Hi all
I know this is a going to get me slated but I just thought it might be worth mentioning.
I have noticed recently there is an awful lot of duplicate, triplicate posts around at the moment so I thought it was worth mentioning that just in case some people didnt know you can search by website as well as title.
I have found this invaluable when searching as I used to do it by title but you get a lot more results if you copy and paste the actual link in the search box.
Anyway I am sure you will all hate me but I was just trying to be helpful to some people.
And no I am not better than anyone else because I have duplicate posted before anyone thinks I am trying to be high and mighty.

Thanks for mentioning that. I am quite new to computers and learn very slowly!!!
I did post a competition a few weeks ago that turned out to be a duplicate, because I had only searched by title.
I got some quite sharp comments when I was just trying to be helpful.
Now I know what to do, I can avoid it next time.
Thank you.0 -
Thanks for posting Sarah, like you and many others I've posted dups before I knew how to use the search facility, so thanks for posting... :T................................... MSE MARTIN LEWIS ... :A ... THANK YOU.......................0

Yeah its so easy when you start out,, to post duplicated posts. We've all done it so I don't think there is any need for some of the rude comments that follow it.
I find that putting the url i.e. www. address into the search box will usually, not always, but the majority of the time bring up past postings. If it says 'Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." congrats you've found a freebie noone else has posted before.
Also I think, I don't know about everyone else but if when you do a search, it finds a past posting, but not being up for say three months it might help to just reply with bump to the original posting. This allows people who have missed the freebie a chance to see it and also the op still gets the credit.
Also sometimes when you do a search check what the offer was for in the past posting as sometimes the url stays the same but the offer may have changed I think its ok to start a new thread if thats the case.
Hope this makes sence. What do ye think?:hello:0 -
Even I who has been here for over two years post duplicates occasionally. It happens, we're only human.....(and sometimes the search engine has not worked:p)0

Hi sarah
I don't post very often but wanted to reply to your post. You certainly won't be slated by me. You - and lorweld - offered your help in a friendly and instructive manner. You weren't pedantic or patronising. For many people it is scary stuff posting for the first time - and scarier still to post a web freebie. To those of you that post a lot on MSE, you have learned the technique of conducting a search. It is second nature to you. It is not (yet) second nature to new posters. It is just not nice to come down so hard on people whom haven't yet become proficient in the ways of navigating MSE.
Thanks for listening...

Well said Gbl:T
I'm often guilty of putting up duplicates but it's hardly the end of the world:eek:
And as Greenpixey said we're only human! We do make mistakes.
And welcome all new mse's :hello:. I'm still relatively new. This is a really fun board. Go ahead and post new freebies who knows they might be the best yet! Just remember to search first;)
Lorweld xxxx:hello:0 -
Thank you Sarah and Lorweld, you've been very helpful, i'm still new here and always have doubts about whether im posting a duplicate or not!! xOfficial DribblerThis is the year to #getfit0

Thank you for your info , i just recently found that if you search the url , you are more likely to find a result.
I must say , a few times i had posted dupes i had received some nasty comments but now i know what to do
also , when i first posted a freebie , you just pay p+p i received some nasty sarcastic comments but if some other members do it NO-ONE says ANYTHING!
Oh well , lol:dance: I am great , yes I am
:rotfl:If you think I was useful , Thank you, for thanking me

Well a subject close to my signature...
This board is a mess, has been since the summer... yeah it would be great if everyone searched before posting... be even better if folk understood that this is the freebies (no spend required) board; not the "whatever we fancy posting just because this is the only board I can be bothered to look at" board...
controversially it'd be even better if we had active board guides...
But what hope do we have when MSE employees can't be arsed searching for stuff when sorting out stuff to go in the weekly email...

Well you wouldn't have expected me to remain quiet on the subject now would you... :rotfl:
ps. thanks sarah for broaching this subject in a timely and considerate manner...0 -
