Being Ripped OFF for Flights time after time....

Can anyone offer any advice?

We HAVE to travel abroad on a regular basis and are very used to dealing with flight only's. Mainly Thomas Cook / Travelsupermarket.com too.

We tend to book when we see we are getting the best we can at the time, sometimes in advance and sometimes last minute.

I know you always take a chance, but lately we have booked 2 more flights and both flights have gone down upto £240.00 per couple!!!! We are sooooo upset. Why is it fair that the person sitting in front of you could be paying so much less or in fact so much more than you.

We should be saving as much money as possible, as it doesn't grow on trees!

IT DOESN't happen on buses!!!!!

We always book by credit card, and wondered if there is any way of claiming monies back or cancelling due to being heavily ripped off and we are not satisfied. Consumer rights???????

Orbitz.com now offer a price assurance for US flights, so if your exact flight goes down they will refund the difference upto $250 which is fair.

Can anyone help at all?????

I'll reserve comment and instead I'll pour myself a drink, pull up a chair, sit back and enjoy. :D

Market forces.......you are paying to know in advance that you have secured seats on a particular flight rather than leave it and take a risk.....Think of it like buying a dress at the beginning of the season-you buy when it is first available in store and you pay full price-if you leave it a few months then you may still be able to buy the same product in the sales at a reduced price -or it may have sold out and you will need to buy something else.
No-one is forcing you to buy at a higher price-YOU are choosing to do so -in other words you are paying to plan ahead.
I don't really understand your problem-either continue to pay a premium rate for that advantage.....or don't and take your chances with the late bookers.
As for consumer rights...you enter a contract with the supplier-they contract to supply you with seats as agreed at the offered price....prices can go up or down later-that's irrelevent. They supplied you with what was agreed-so what consumer rights have been breeched ? Try ringing your creditcard company if you feel the need but they will tell you exactly the same thing.
Sorry but I don't see your point. I travel fairly regually (have elite status as a frequent traveller) if i want to be sure of my flights I book early -if I'm more flexible I book later and reap the benefits of each scenario accordingly.

If you HAVE to go to your Holiday home, then you pay the going rate for the flights to get there. If someone can get the same flights cheaper, then good for them. I think you're being rather petulant.
  • Thanks for your email.

Our simple problem is we are purchasing airline tickets when we believe they are as low as possible and then suddenly following no particular pattern they drop ridiculously lower, I'm just stating it shouldn't be allowed to happen and the airlines should have an upper and lower cut off ceiling.

Please write to your MP and MEP and also say that the EU compensation for cancellation needs more teeth. Thanks.

As I said it's called market forces basic economics-the price is dictated by market demand.
I don't think food prices should go up either-but basic economics means that they will-it's no different-and has been that way with flights for decades. It isn't going to change just because you are pouting over it.

Im suprised no one has mentioned this yet but...........

if the tickets went up would you be willing to pay the difference, of course not.

Consider when I go on holiday I may have a pocket full of dollars which I purchased well in advance at $2 to the £1 however everyone else on my flight may not have taken advantage of the exchange rate and they bought theres at $1.60 to the £1, so do you feel these people should feel agreived with me because I got more for my money.

Anyway this thread is'nt a proper thread with out the word rip-off so please adjust your post accordingly.

Another quick point i filled my car up the other day and diesel was 119.9 per ltr and its now 113.9, which means people are driving round with cheaper fuel than me. grrr grumble rip off pout grumble, heck I may start a new thread about this injustice.

    all the best

Why bother checking the price after you've booked? You were happy with the price when you bough it.

Hello SalonBeauty and welcome to MSE.

Thankyou for joining and sharing your thoughts with us.

We shall all be eagerly anticipating the results of your campaign to get this 'rip-off' stopped.

In the meantime, can I humbly suggest you need to get better at booking your flights. I also travel frequently and have saved about £1,400 this year by booking short-haul flights at the 'right' time, compared to the 'wrong' time. And, yes, one flight DID reduce in price after I booked.
