Welcome to the MSE forums Claire53580.

Martin drew attention to this over 18 months ago and recommended a money-saving solution:
This means if you can, switch your payment to direct debit before 1 May (2007).

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Why single out BT? TalkTalk will charge you £10.50 (£6 more than BT); Virgin will charge you £15 (£10.50 more than BT); nPower will charge you £26.25 (£21.75 more than BT).

The Post Office is one who will charge you £0 extra (£4.50 less than BT).
  • this is getting so boring. companies charge for non dd payment virgin being the worst at £5 a month but all charge or dont even accept you money unless direct debit . just pay direct debit or pay the charge simple . i know theres lots of arguements why dd is bad but if it saves you money it cant be that bad isnt that this sites about?
