Anybody know where to get advise on a parking ticket recived on a store car park.
I over parked the lines instead of inbetween them ( due to a car being badly parked) never thought anything about it till this morning when the fine turned up for £45.00
I am not aware of any signs up warning of this will go back to check,
They have sent a picture but low and behold there is no other car to show they where overparked
Any advise please

don't think you have to pay it. ignore it, they may continue to write to you, eventually it will go away,

next time, try to find a better place to park.
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?

was it asda by any chance???

they are really clamping down at the moment my BIL got a ticket off asda for parking on the line while he nipped in for a drink!

they are also stopping people from parking in parent and child spaces if they haven't got a child with them they will also get a fine.

I'm not really that good at parking and tend to park far away so my doors on my car dont get bashed ect ect but if someone is parked badly it puts the rest of the line out of line too.

  • My tips for fine parking are:

    Park in the correct bay
    Park between the lines
If you have shopping leave the boot sticking out so you can get your shopping in
Think about where you are parking, parking closest to the door usually doesnt save time and increases your chances of the car being damaged

OP - you have not been fined. Only the Courts have the power to fine people, councils and the police issue penalties, and private parking companies issued invoices.

If this was a private car park, the OP certainly didn't park illegally, as marked spaces in a private car park have no legal significance (unlike Council ones, which have to comply with various regulations).

At worst, she parked anti-socially by occupying two spaces. The company has issued her with an invoice (it's not a fine) for breaching the terms of the implied contract. However, as it's a penalty charge, and not one that reflects their actual losses, they'd have a hard time trying to enforce it in court.

So don't pay up, but try to keep your car within the lines in future.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

ignore it, it will eventually go away, the have no standing in law.
They use the word fine, they do not have the authority to give you a fine.
Only the courts can do this. Do they have photograph evidence of you actually driving the car. they cannot give a 'fine' to the owner. They would at least have to provided proof of who was driving it so dont admit to being the driver. They get the car owner details from Swansea so in actual fact they have wasted their money
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
