Virgin Broadband connection problems

Hello
I am experiencing a problem with my Virgin Broadband connection. It was only installed 2 weeks ago and was working fine up until lunchtime yesterday. I tried to connect and it keeps hanging on "acquiring network address" for a couple of minutes and I then get a message to the effect: "you have limited or no connectivity" (paraphrase). It's a wireless connection which my laptop detects ok, with maximum signal strength, but it refuses to connect. i've tried tinkering with my Norton Antivirus and my XP firewall but still nothing. The only thing I can think that was out of the ordinary was I downloaded and installed XP Service Pack 3; could it have anything to do with it? If so, how can I resolve it? I'm doing my best in trying to avoid phoning the helpline...

Is it Virgin ADSL or Cable?
Have you tried using ethernet instead of wireless? It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
It's a Virgin Cable connection and I have tried it both wirelessly and with the cable, all to no avail...0

if the problem is aquireing network adress it is a network isue...so you either cannot connect to your router, or to whatever is supplying your wireless.
I am with virgin and we have a modem AND a router, so try connecting directly to your modem via cable, rather than your router.
Also check if the internet light is showing green on your router, if it is then your line is fine, however if the router is showing not connected, then you need to ring virgin.
Virgin technical support refund all calls if it is a technical fault, although you do need to chase them up if they dont refund. The last time i had a problem i had an engineer send out within 2 hours.
I'll get my bf to have a look at this thread when he gets home from work, he worked for virgin up until a few months ago in their technical centre.0 -
Hey thanks for that; I'd really appreciate any help your bf could give :-)0

I had a problem with Virgin yesterday as well, but all seems ok again today, they seem to be messing about with the broadband at the moment - 2 weeks ago they told me it was my router!!!! in was infact them..
Hope you get sorted.0 -
Lots of Virgin upgrade going on at the moment. We've had a few no connectivity errors. Turning off the wireless on the PC and then turning it back on usually does the trick.0

Almost certainly a service pack conflict if thats all thats changed
Uninstall it and try again
However, if you can get on their broadband site, it should tell you if theres a problem in your area (I cant try at the moment ~ sorry):idea:0 -
They had trouble again yesterday but as usual they will tell you that their service is perfect and it is your equipment.
I persevered and they finally admitted that it was their end that had problems, although as usual they didn't show any mention of a problem on the status page.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hmm snap....no outgoing connection for nearly 4hrs yesterday (no pages loading etc) they finally admitted after being on the phone for 28mins that they'd done something at their end to disrupt the connections...roll on when the contract is upWe all die. I've had this issue a few times with VM cable BB and it wasnt a network issue. It was a vista issue and i never got to the bottom of it but i found if i rebooted with a linux disk,it connected perfectly.
Try
power off the cable modem
unscrew the incoming signal cable and disconnect
wait a couple of mins
reconnect
power up0
