Hiya sorry to hear your dd has been diagnosed, my son was the same age when he was diagnosed, hugs.
Recipes, we tend to give him what we are having as we were advised everything in moderation, obv cut down on sugar:D

Also a great forum to join is children with diabetes, it is a email list where parents of kids with diabetes offer support and advice, its great http://mail.castleweb.com:81/guest/RemoteListSummary/cwd_uk
One of the things we found out was to read this book, type 1 diabetes in children, adolescents and young adults, by dr ragnar hanas, this has everything u need to know.
You are also able to claim disability living allowance for your child and carers allowance, diabetes uk gives u help on filling out forms.

my OH is diabetic and I tried to make some fairy cakes yesterday using sweetener but they didn't work very well and hardly rose and kind of looked liked scones.
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions? I amended the amount of sweetener used as per the details on the packet but something still went wrong.0 -
Heres one without sugar:
Fairy Cakes
(3oz) margarine
(4oz) self raising flour
2 medium eggs
Milk
salt
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place the margarine into a bowl, mix together well until margarine is soft
2. Place the eggs in a separate bowl, and beat well.
3. Add the beaten egg a little at a time to margarine
mix together well.
4. Sieve the flour into the mixture, add the salt and fold well.
5. Add enough milk to make mixture into a soft dropping consistency.
6. Spoon into greaseproof baking cases and bake in a pre-heated oven at (160°C), (325°F),(Gas Mark 3) for 20-25 minutes.
7. When golden remove from bake and place on wire tray to cool, do not remove from cases until cool.
Can be served plain, or topped with icing or chocolate. Often served plain with fresh cream and strawberry Jam.
Was it a packet mix you used or from a recipe? how much sweetner did u use?

The sweetener websites often have some recipes that are good to try, I've found cakes made with sweeteners are never as good as ones made with sugar but as my diabetic OH would say "they're lovely if you can't have normal"! I've personally found the Hermesetas site very good they've got loads of nice recipes and also tell you the amount of carbs:

It was a recipe and it said to use 10% sweetener from the recipe (so 10g instead of 100g sugar).0 -

My neighbours birthday is coming up and I thought it would be a nice idea to bake him a cake suitable for a diabetic. Does anybody have any recipes?
