The UK property slump has forced a Devon developer, Cliff Rawlinson, into extreme measures to recoup the costs of building four luxury apartments worth £1.7 million. He will be attempting to sell 45,000 tickets at £50 each in a competition which has just launched at WinADevelopment.com. The winner will own the four new luxury apartments at Church Park, Wolborough Heights, South Devon, set between Dartmoor and the coast.

128 tickets sold so far :money:
Not a new thing though, there are a fair few here:

In these raffles - do they have to state the number of tickets which must be sold? I mean if he only sells 100 or something can he declare the raffle void or does he have to go ahead?0

From reading into it the set a closing date, and if they haven't sold the amount
of tickets needed by that date the hold the raffle for a cash prize not the house
Also, it's not strictly a raffle as that would be illegal. Questions have to be answered making it a competition.0 -

The fishing farm in Exeter which is being drawn tomorrow after having sold all the tickets early was a lot more interesting!0 -
Not sure if this should be posted here - just joined so I hope someone sees this.
I found this link through DIGG as a legal alternative because of lowest number selection process.
the claim is this is legal and they have a house they are raffling?

I don't think they have sold any tickets at all though so a little wary - but a nice touch is every ticket gets 15% off removals - so I am guessing there is a referral element? mind you if i win a house i would happily pay full price for removals!;)
if these lowest unique number schemes are legal I am guessing this is OK, through searching on google found this thread - thought I would check out this site before buying a ticket - think it is a great idea to raffle your house plus imagine a house for £25!0 -
Is the fish farm the one which was on the local news last night (I live in South Devon) where he has actually sold all the tickets (£1mn worth) and was ready to make the draw, perfectly happy, but the gambling commision have stepped in to say that the question was too easy so it might be an illegal lottery rather than a competition. This despite the guy having taken legal advice and advice from the gambling commision from the start. (Boo!)They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

PS I see that they carefully avoid mentioning that the development in the OP is in Newton Abbot - hardly "between Dartmoor and the coast" well technically it is I suppose but it's also about the least desirable part of South Devon, full of £1 shops and charity shops. 4 flats = £1.7mn? Don't make me laugh! They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

When I looked at the details I noticed it was in Newton Abbot - and was about to post that I thought you could buy the whole of Newton Abbot for what he was asking for those flats - but thought I would be criticised - (I did live there in the 70's and went back about 8 weeks ago and couldnt believe what a run down town it had become (in my opinion)!)
SO yes I agree 110% with your comments!:T
