It might cost you a few quid, but just change the lock, you can do it with a few simple tools yourself, and in the end it will be worth it, it will only happen again and be annoying!

As trades go Locksmith's are relatively cheap. I paid £80 recently to have new front door locks fitted, that included the new mortice and yale locks and new door handles. It would have been less, but half the time was spent patching up the bodge job someone else had made trying to do it themselves. The guy was there for about 5 hours in the end, so I thought it was pretty reasonable.
