Front door lock jammed

My front door mortice lock will not unlock. It was playing up occassionally the lock would stick but by jiggling the key back and forward it would unlock, now I can't move it.

My microwave has come out in sympathy and I can't open that either.

Try WD40 on your front door.

Dunno about the microwave, but don't put WD40 on that ;D

Do you want food parcels or is the back door working?

we were having a job locking our doors they have that handle you have to push up then turn the key

but a good blast of wd 40 and some oil down the hole at the top of the brass on the door edge sorted it

good luck and hope you dont have to climb out of the window

If the WD doesn't fix it, then you should be able to get a new barrel for a couple of quid. If you are into DIY, take it apart - they are pretty simple mechanisms.

WD 40 did NOT work, the problem is how do I get the lock to move from the locked position in order to open the door to change the barrel???

Any ideas about opening the microwave!!!

you might have a similar problem to me...

my front door is quite heavy, when it was fitted, the mortice lock worked perfectly, twice since then i have had to file away at the lock holes in the door frame to get the lock to lock.....

i now only use it when we go on holiday, and manage to get it to lock , by slightly lifting the door by using the letter box.

if it works, then get someone (or diy), to adjust the mortice lock hole to accomodate the change in door, also check the screws in the hinges are tight, if they are loose, then that will help the door to drop slightly (as in my front door's case)
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

They might have some better ideas as they appear to be fairly good at picking locks
