Significance of Voter's Roll

I got my Virgin CC, Abbey CC and Cahoot flexi loans, all when I wasn't on the electoral register. Like someone else said though, not sure if there is more importance in today's financial climate. I've just moved house, and although I've signed up to the electoral register at my new address, it hasn't been updated yet - so as far as lenders are concerened I'm not on it. I've recently applied for a Barclaycard platinum and they requested some proof of address documents, but they didn't say no - yet!
Having a land line helps confirm you are in one place and are stable, so does have an effect.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 784 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
If you are not on the votors roll at your current address if yu have lived there for more than one year lenders start to score you down.
However, if you have only lived at your current address for less than one year but are traced at your previous address then this will make up for this.
Remember though that there is no such thing as a global universal credit score and each lender will look at your circumstances differently.0 -
Yes. I wasn't on the electoral roll for 2 years and had no problems getting a credit card or catalogues. However it was a few years ago.justsayyes wrote: »Is it humanly possible to get a credit card, mail order catalogue or full bank account without being on the Voter's Roll at all? What are your experiences with this?
However when I spoke to my bank at the time they said if I left it any longer then I would have problems getting credit.
All the forms I've completed for various things like insurance want your previous address if you haven't lived at your current address for 2 or 3 years.justsayyes wrote: »Is it true that having a landline home phone registered in your name has some bearing on your credit score?
I have no idea. I have checked my credit reports and my fixed phone lines don't come up at all. The only phones that come up are my mobile providers.
Also when I now complete some forms I don't put in my landline phone number. Mainly because I'm fed up of companies calling me on it during working hours when either I'm not around.
Personally there is no reason not to be on the electoral roll. You just have to check you tick the correct boxes so you don't get personally addressed junk mail.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
