dont know where to put this - i need advice please - the pizza delivery man fell down my outdoor steps last night and has sprained his ankle - i have asked the council numerous times to put me some outdoor lights up or at least put a street light up outside on the street - we have one street light on the whole street and that is in the middle - i am on the corner with big conifers and it is very dark......i have bought some outdoor lights myself but with me and hubby being disable we cannot put them up but cannot afford to pay an electrician.....
am i liable if he sues? i have told him i will confirm and help him in everything as i feel soooo bad - he was in a lot of pain - poor guy......
what do you suggest i do now?
thanks

Sorry I cant help you with the legalities of this issue - I would just like to say though that there is no way this guy should sue you!! The compensation culture in this country makes me mad  ! Its time people took responsibility for their own actions - he fell down the step which presumably he knew were there since he had just gone up them so therefore the accident was his fault!
...Now that really is a vent!!
Hopefully this guy will be better soon and you wont hear anymore from him and if he does try to sue I'm sure that there will be someone on here that can help with the legal side of things.

After reading the title of this thread, your post was not as expected...
Is the property council-owned?"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

I think that if the property is owned by the council any tradesmen's accidents will be covered by their building insurance. If you own the property your own building insurance should cover.0

and if you don't have any insurance on your property, no ambulance chaser is going to come after you for payment imo.0

thanks a lot for all your kind words - i have enquired and found out no i am not liable and now the council are going to come and fit the lights for me - when i do not know - but, it is a start!!! i really would like to phone up and find out how the guy is but dont want all the shouting again....
yes, it is a council property - it is slowly being adapted for my hubby's disability but the word is slowly - been waiting three years now for the handrails to be finished - they started the job and never finished.
thanks everyone
merry christmas...

hawkwinddotcom, whilst it probably doesn't matter now, posting your address etc is against the site rules.
If anything like this happened to me, I'd just tell them I'd see them in court if they started talking like they were thinking about it.
I understand how some people worry. I wouldn't though.0 -

Good news about the council being liable and sorting it out as it is their responsibility. To be honest, and I know you want to be nice, but I would be inclined to make no further contact with this individual as it is now a council matter and between the pizza guy and the insurer's. I would keep right out of it altogether (except of course suppying any reasonable information required by the council form-filling).merry christmas...
