I know these are not likely to be "happy chickens" but a lot of people feeding families nowadays cannot afford to buy ethically.

It's interesting that they've remarketed Value as 'Market Value' giving it a more personal and 'farmy' feel. A bit like their images of grass and green fields they used to have on their labels.

And they are cheap aren't they?

All I can say is I hope that the people who can't afford better make use of the whole chicken. I still remember the family who cut off and ate the breast and threw away the rest because you couldn't do anything with it!

Tescontrol Freaks seem to have rebranded a number of the fresh Value items to Market Value. Sadly a number of their veggies don't last till for more than a couple of days. A whole bag of parsnips is difficult to get through in two days but our branch weren't selling them individually.

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

I can remember growing up as a child mum making a chicken dinner on a sunday for 5 of us, Monday was curry with the left over chicken and Tuesday was chicken soup from the bones. Wonder how many people still do this now. Mum also made all her own burgers, fish cakes and pies.

Just to add, I bought one of the tesco £1.99 chickens yesterday only to find my oven was broken

So I got my filleting knife out and portioned the whole chicken up, something I've never done before (it's not nice to do, but hey). I then cooked up 1 breast and made it into risotto which fed 3 adults and a toddler, I've boiled all the bones up and now have the base for a soup. I've still got 1 breast and the legs in the fridge ready to make other meals out of! all for £1.99!!

Oddly enough, same here (Though I used a free range chicken)

But I think it highly unlikely I'm your mum!:D

Prob. going to be unpopular here, but I wouldn't touch the £1.99 Chickens  . I have 3 Children and am currently on unpaid Maternity Leave, but managed to spend £5 on a free rage Chicken from Sainsburys yesterday.

Also, did anyone see the Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall prog. where he compaired the nutritional value of battery chickens, free range and organic? Battery Chickens were the worst!
