I would tell 100% tell him about the offer. You'd have to be really cheap or desperate to want to pocket a measly £4. It would be really embarrassing if he found out and confronted you about it!!!!

I would tell him about the offer and hand him the change, but hope that he was a nice boss and told me to keep the change because it was my voucher that got him the better price!!
  • I agree with Graham 73, 100 % give it back.
  • What happened to honesty?

Depending on how Rebecca feels about her boss she should either inform him of the deal and give him the change or should ignore the deal and pay the usual price for the items.

And she should definitely be doing this on work's time not on her own break! If it is the expectation that she performs errands for her boss then that is part of her work and not part of her lunch break.

are people on this thread really this honest, or are they just saying they'd give the boss the full credit because it's favoured in the majority on this thread. Its rebeccas paper, so she should utilise the voucher for her benefit not her bosses, who probably sits on his 4rse all day (as she's his gopher). It really is easy because David is willing to spend £5 for his lunch and rebecca is the money saver, so he should spend the £5 and she should keep the money.
  • Rebecca should mention this to her boss. He would appreciate her sense of economy in this current clime. If he knew she had sacrificed a saving herself, he might offer to buy her lunch in exchange. Bosses always appreciate people trying to save money. My boss certainly does.

She should tell him about the offer and ask him if he wants to use the coupons - assuming she isn't using them for her own lunch. If he doesn't want to use them, get the lunch at full price as usual and keep the receipts.

If he does want to use them, get the cut-price lunch and give him the change at the end of the week. It's not her money, and in my opinion it's not worth pocketing.

Some people see it as stealing and some don't, but is it really worth taking the risk of being branded a thief (by some people) for the sake of such a small sum of money? I don't think so.

Plus, I wouldn't want money which hadn't been earned by me, or given to me. Personally, I would feel uncomfortable with that.
  • I get on really well with my boss, so wouldn't think of ripping him off. Truth be told I'd probably let him know before I even left the office to buy it. Only chance I wouldn't is if I got myself one. The whole 1 voucher at any one time thing means only one of us can benefit, so that'll be me.

That said, I never bring him back a receipt, so if I wanted to I could. Then again, from his perspective why would i risk friendship, a decent job and trust over loose change?

If she gets her lunch at the same place, then why not? When I pop out for lunch I always ask if I can get anyone else anything while I'm out, and have recently been asked to take longer lunch breaks in future.

I guess it's a matter of work ethic. When you enjoy your job and don't mentally need a break, why try to nick every last minute? Admittedly, in some jobs every minute counts. In that case, 5 minutes of her lunch is on his time.
