We all think differently, it does not mean we are all wrong, would not be a very interesting world if we all dressed, looked, and thought the same now would it.0
-
That depends. Would everyone in this world dress, look and think like me? Cuz that world would rock!
We do actually agree on the bigger point actually, that of the general honesty. I just wouldn't buy it cheaper and keep the change where others may feel an obligation to tell him of the offer. To each their own0 -
As a boss i would never impose on my staff's freetime but, if the situation arose then if i was told about the offer then the change would be given as a thank you. If i was not told then it is stealing by all accounts so the employee would have to account for their actions.
Act like one and you get treated like one, thats how i was brought up.0 -
here's an idea, she should keep hold of the savings in a labelled envelope in her desk drawer, keep saving the money for six months, tell her boss how much she's saved and make a suggestion as to how to use the money (split it? new office coffee maker? work night out with some free drinks?). hopefully she'll look pretty savvy and get something out of it. Of course this only works if the boss is a nice person.0

Sorry, I know she's a PA but I don't like the word 'dutifully'.
If it had said she happily picks up his lunch then it would imply their relationship was on good terms. 'Dutifully' doesn't imply the same thing to me.
As has been said already, I'd be handing back the receipt and change and making a point about the savings.
Who's paying for the Independent? Is that what is costing the pound? Not in debt
Saving water and power.
Going green with the green house.
Still driving though...:(0 -
Purely on the basis that she might get rumbled - tell him!0

The boss may very well know the real cost of the baguette, or find out (e.g. from the office sneak??!) so this may be a test!
So I would definitely drop it into the conversation that I was getting the baguette for a cheap price.
The boss then has a choice.
He can allow me to always keep the change as a reward for my honesty; OR he can pay the lesser price in future, in which case he now morally 'owes me one' (and I may then also decide I've got better things to do than run his errands for him); OR he can allow me to always keep the change and let me know that I 'owe him one'. It's good for him to have friends in low places!0
