I guess the question still stands though.

Is it possible to get any sort of discount on an iPhone 3G on either contract or PAYG? I am in the market for a new phone and am looking at either the iPhone 3G or Nokia N96. My preference is for an iPhone but if I could get a few £ off then it would sweeten the deal.

I found today that on Cashbackkings you can get £45 back for a new contract phone. Does this apply to iPhone and how reliable are Carphone warehouse at giving the cash back.

    Cheers

Sorry to go of topic but is the microphone generally known to be poor on the iphone, whenever I use it as a phone I have trouble hearing the other person unless i put it on speaker.

Dont think i am going deaf

Unfortunately, o2 designed the tariffs to get the most out of the customer, knowing full well no other network would be able to offer the iPhone.

Not sure what you mean by this? The iPhone tariffs are in line with the O2 Store Tariffs. For example, £35pm gets 500 mins/600 texts on an iphone just as it does on say any other contract phone.

Instead of getting the additional bolt that you would get with the £35pm+ tariffs on other contract phones you get unlimited wi-fi and data with the iphone which amounts to the same thing (an additional bolt on).
    Waddle you do eh?

try and get a sim only deal from o2 for your loyalty (make sure includes unlimited web bolt-on)
then buy an iphone pay and go and you should save a bit of money

I think that the Iphone unless it was on two networks in this country will at least for the next couple of years be very expensive in relation to other models which offer nigh on the same features. If you want an Iphone, I'd go down the PAYG/SIM only route and wait until November at least. This is when the price structure is rumoured to be changed just before Christmas. I can't see the price dropping by that much though if I'm being honest;)
  • The cheapest way would be to ring up to say you are cancelling and what your pac code. When you get through to retentions, ask what they can do, and haggle.

Without any haggling at all and saying you want to keep your existing phone you will be offered a £35/month tarrfif reducded by £15/month as a loyalty bonus which means just £20/month. You will also be given a £180 credit on your account for not selecting a new phone. This means, over an 18 month contract you pay just £10/month for unlimted wap, 600 mins, 1000 texts.

Then buy an Iphone seperately for £350

    This works out very cheap.

When they offer you this, explain that its still more effective and easier to go onoto voda payg, and see if they can come up with a deal.. the may just offer you the contract for £30/month free phone
