Hairdresser colour mistake - complain?

  • I've just phoned the salon, they've said I can come back in and have a semi reapplied by someone else. The manager said it was a blonde tint that was put on my roots, not bleach, so a semi shouldn't fade.
I'm going in at 1.30, but I'm worried they're going to expect me to pay - what should I say if they do try to get me to pay?

I would clarify before they touch your hair that you don't expect to pay. Afterall they are fixing a problem that they created.

If they try to charge you I would be firm in refusing - is there any chance someone could go with you to back you up? If they won't budge and refuse to colour it without charging you I would tell them exactly what I think of them and be finding someone else to fix the problem and never go back! I'm sure it won't come to that though.

    Good luck

Personally, I would go for a second opinion first.

They are telling you it was a blonde tint not a bleach, yet you say you could feel it stinging? That sounds like a bleach to me.

As for putting a semi on again, I am no hairdresser but I do play around with my hair a lot by putting on bright colours. When I bleach a strand and apply a blue colour it fades after every wash because its semi permenant. By putting another Semi on top it will fade again when you wash it.

Sounds to me like it needs a permenant colour, not a semi.

You can not lighten hair without bleach, so when she says it was a blonde tint, it was bleach!

If she had put a blonde tint on dark hair it would have had no effect.

Whenever I visit the hairdressers I seem to change from a normal confident person into this meek little mouse. I think its the harsh lighting, amount of mirrors and the fact that most hairdressers have prefect trendy hair styles with prefect (if a tad thick) make up and are often skinny, which leaves us customers (whose make up disappeared when they were washing our hair) feeling a bit ugly (and fat).

Good luck - i can't remember the amount of times I've left the hairdressers saying through gritted teeth, yes i love it thanks. Although luckily I've never had as bad an experience as yourself.
  • Thanks for all your replies. As they put the gown on I asked "just to check will I need to pay for this" in my most polite voice, and the boss said 'no'. So I've had another semi (slightly darker than normal I think, - half and half rather than 1/4 - 3/4 as normal) which looks fab (well, back to normal) applied by another girl then the one who originally made the mistake blow dried my hair for me, and did a really good job.
Thanks again for all of your replies. It really has helped me as I'm also a meek little mouse in the hairdressers!
It feels so good to be back to normal

This is a great thread. Lots of really helpful and knowledgeable replies. Puts a few other threads to shame.

Glad you got it sorted Pengwern. Hairdressers are a bit like dentists IMO you feel powerless while you're there.
  • glad you got it sorted out i feel for you, i've had some serious hair disasters in my time, i once went to a new hairdresser and told her i only wanted her to 'trim' my fringe a little bit as im really fussy about it and she cut it so short i went home and refused to go out all that weekend lol
i've had my current hairdresser for nearly two years and i would never let anyone else touch it now!

my current hairdresser just emigrated :(

Luckily there is a hairdressing department at my college where a friend is being trained. She is the only one I trust to cut my fringe for exactly the same reasons beauty queen! I like my fringe long, so I can just peep under it :D

Well done, glad you got it fixed. Don't want to be a dark cloud on the horizon but... If they have just applied another semi then the colour will fade again and you are going to have the same problem. If it does fade, phone them up again and tell them you want a permanent colour of the damaged area.
