    1.29 in it???

Volkswagens cost much more though; makes you wonder what people are paying the extra for when VW are so far behind Citroen, Ford and Peugeot.

PS Apologies to OP for going off-topic.

    Nope! :rotfl:

EDIT: List in order from most reliable manufacturer to least:

    SUZUKI 33.52
    HONDA 34.00
    MAZDA 37.51
    SKODA 49.98
    TOYOTA 65.22
    HYUNDAI 65.34
    NISSAN 67.04
    CITROEN 67.23
    FORD 70.55
    KIA 72.27
    MINI 72.88
    PEUGEOT 74.51
    LEXUS 77.56
    VAUXHALL 80.45
    VOLKSWAGEN 81.74
    BMW 86.10
    [snip]
    LANDROVER 211.71
    JEEP 224.60
    PORSCHE 240.01

If I remember correctly this reliability index score is a function of "frequency of failures per car made" combined with "cost of fixing". So the fact that Porsche sits at the bottom of the list does not mean it is the least reliable car here, it just means then when it does go wrong it's very expensive to fix which is what earns it a poor index score.
At this point I suggest that VW fails less often than a Vauxhall but when it does, costs more to fix.
The cars at the top of the list both fail rarely and are inexpensive to fix when they do.

Yes that's a good point - see http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/index_pop.html although I find their explanation a bit contradictory.

You can do a more detailed car-by-car comparison using the site, e.g.:

Vauxhall Astra (98-04): 56.96. Time off the road 1.86 hours. Average repair cost £225.70.

VW Golf (97-04): 89.61. Time off the road 2.17 hours. Average repair cost £286.34.
