  • Claims for gyh is on an agreement with your admin office on how far you can go back depends on circumstances.
Storage claims can be back dated upto 2 years.

I once supported a claim for one of my lads, he had been told that no claim would be paid if it was over 1 yr old, (his was already 3yrs). I asked them to explain why the statute of limitations did not apply, they paid the claim.
  • My boyfriend has been claiming GYH since May this year (it was also backdated to Sept '07, to when we first moved into our rented home together.) This was a great help financially as our house is 150 miles from his base.

He's now been told that the criteria has been changed for GYH and it won't be paid - because we are tenants, not home-owners! Apparently, if we had a mortgage, he could still claim. Is this right?

How can this be justified? He/We pay all the Utility bills, Council Tax, due on our home, yet that's not consider that enough?

Can any of you guys help? Anyone have similar experiences?

Who's name is the one on the rent book though? you or him because if its you then he can't claim
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
  • No, both our names are on the Tenancy Agreement. Not that it means very much, but he is even down as the "Lead Tenant" in the Agreement. Everything is in joint names - tenancy, bills, council tax, and their all paid for out of our joint bank account. He provided a copy of all the relevants documents when he first claimed GYH. (Including "Journey Planner" from three different websites, as evidence of the distance from our house to his base!)

Would it make any difference where he is based? When he was able to claim GYH, he was on a 2-year posting in North Yorkshire. Now he's based back down South with the rest of his Battalion, it's goodbye GYH!

Who decides these policies? It makes me so angry!

'T' letter 321/08 changed the entitlement from privately maintained property to privately owned property, so if you are renting you are no longer eligible.

    Sorry.

Grrrrrrr!!!! and I supposed only those people that own their homes, ever wish to travel back to them, huh?

Sorry, just venting - not blaming you.

Thanks very much for the info. Much appreciated.
  • I've been flying from London to Edinburgh for the past few months and have not managed to claim on JPA for any of my flights because I am a bit of a spoon and did not realise I had about 12 warrants I could use. I have now transfreerd to a different unit. Can I retrospectively claim for these flights?

  • Marker - When he found out he could claim GYH, my OH claimed back 9-months worth (from May 08 back to Sept 07)... Don't know where you'd get the "offical" info from though.... sorry.
