Do you need to use a debit card to pay via the coin machine ? (I have a mortgage account with HSBC which has a standard 8 digit account number, but obviously no debit card to go with it !)
No you don't, you can simply use the 8 digit account number and your sort code of your account you wish to deposit into. I'm a bit confused with regards to your mortgage thing you refer to, is this an HSBC bank account of some sort?

For anyone in Surrey/SW London, i've located coin sorters in

Kingston upon Thames (new branch,. ex Burger King)
Kingston upon Thames (old one across the road, now Business/Premier, but ordinary customers can use the machines)
    Surbiton

There's also coin sorters at these Central London branches:

    Covent Garden
    Charing Cross

Anyone know if there is a coinstar in one of their Cardiff branches?

LOL, if there was it'd be nicked after a day surely?

Cardiff lads don't deposit the conventional way - imagine that, an ATM sized piggy bank haha :j
    :o 2010 - year of the troll :o

The new HSBC 'store' on Lord Street in Liverpool (which replaced the two major city branches) has a coin machine, as well as about 40 other machines for every kind of transaction. And 2 cashier positions, hidden away upstairs in the corner ;)

But do you all know that NatWest also have coin machines in some branches? They differ to HSBC's and Barclay ones though, because they are not 'stand-alone' units... instead, they are incorporated into a normal looking ATM (a bit like the deposit machines inside Nationwide branches). Again, there's one in the new NatWest branch in Liverpool One Shopping Centre. And a single cashier window!

Yup, it does. All HSBC machines can be used by First Direct customers (although the Express Banks that some branches have are quite limited in functionality - you can get a statement or balance on your 1st Account and that's it. Found this out when I had to test our machine once ;)

I love the coin machines at HSBC (when they are working). They are great for getting rid of coins burning a hole in your pocket. Money is credited same day and you don't look like a stingy miser for depositing 87p in coppers!
