HSBC coin machines

Everyone seems to be talking about these machines that are like coinstar but dont charge a fee.

Does anyone know how to find out where my local machine is? I tried the website and the Customer Service helpline but drew a blank at both places.

    Not that I know of:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=549872

You could try renovating that thread and say where you live and see if anyone whose resonbly nearby to say if theirs has.

As in that thread I did ask if my local HSBCs would be getting them, a firm no was the answer! However, a list of services and machines on branches I feel would be good.

I would think about making a mini database on all services and machines each HSBC branch has... but that would take forever!
  • I called HSBC and they listed all the ones that coin sorters in my area. Aside from Canary Wharf the following the branches in Central London have coin sorters...
    Edgware Rd Marble Arch,
    Baker St,
    Queen Victoria St -Cheapside
    Fleet St
    Clapham Junction
    all have one.
Apparently they are thinking about publishing this on their website as they are starting to get lots of calls about where these machines are!

The machine count your coins, deposits directly into your account and then prints you a statement of exactly what you deposited.
    I had 483 pennies!

Its kinda like playing the pokies - except all the money goes to you!
  • The Canary Wharf HSBC which has a coin sorter is in the Jubilee Park underground mall in Jubilee Place - it's one of the paying-in machines. It's free, and fun to use! However you have to have an HSBC or FirstDirect account to use it (the cash is credited to your account).

I just wanted to bump this to see if anyone knew if HSBC have yet produced a list of where these machines are.

Or if anyone knows if any of the following branches have such a machine :

    Redditch
    Droitwich
    Bromsgrove
    Merry Hill

These are the easiest for me to use.

    Thankyou

I only last week saw one of the mentioned machines in my local HSBC branch (Northampton). I went in today to open an account with them. I told them that I would be putting small amounts of money in all year as a Christmas fund. I was told that unless I was putting in £500 per month then I could not open an account with them!!!

That is balls. I've got a HSBC basic bank account and am definitely not putting £500 per month in to it. I'm using mine as a mini savings account so I know whats in there and am saving for bills etc. I didn't want (and don't want) a savings account (before anyone says anything).

Back to original topic of coin machines. My local branch has one of these in the section where you pay over the counter.

Its only the current account where you need to pay £500 a month - and only to new customers.

Do you need to use a debit card to pay via the coin machine ? (I have a mortgage account with HSBC which has a standard 8 digit account number, but obviously no debit card to go with it !)
