Should I buy a phone OR get a new contract?
Options
I am not sure what the best thing to do is with regards to my mobile phone contract. My o2 sim only contract costs me £10 a month and I get 50mins off peak a day and 600 free texts a month.
The phone im using is getting rather tired now and I want to get a K750i but i would have to pay full price for the phone. Or I could change to a different contract and pay more per month and get the phone on the contract. Another problem with my current contract is that I cant use GPRS because it wasnt around when I got the contract. This means I can't send MMS messages or use other phone features that require GPRS.
My phone bills are normally around 13-20 per month once I have made a couple of peak time calls etc. Ideally I would want 100-200cross network mins and a couple of hundred free txts and a K750i for as cheap as possible per month.
I would also want to keep the same number if possible.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

have a look at this thread - you may be able to keep the contract, have a handset thrown in and poss get some free line rental...

be careful though cos O2 have taken ages to switch my girlfriend onto the tarriff they originally promised.
they did put her on something different and it was costing her more for 3 months... took a while to sort it out and get the tarriff offer confirmed by email to her.
i got £100 to stay - i am on a sim only contract too - the hundred nicker paiud for 10 months line rental for me0 -
Thanks for the advice I gave it a go!
Phoned their cancelation number and said I wanted to cancel. I mentioned I was only leaving because I was after a better deal and they asked me what I was after. I mentioned i wanted about 500x net mins and 400txts. They said they could do that £26 a month with any phone I wanted for free.
12*26 = £312
I said I would think about it. Is this good value? it doesnt sound like it judging by some of the other posts in the thread above. What i didnt do was mention any other deals for example a "3" deal. Would that have helped??0 -
perhaps going for 500x mins was going ott considering I only wanted 200 but thought I would aim high :-)0

500 xnet and 400 texts doesnt sound too bad for 26pounds for a direct sale from o2. did you not mention you wanted a diff phone as well?:A Boots Tart :A0

Phoned agained to see if a different person would give me a different answer.
I was slightly more reolistic this time about my mins usage.
I started by asking what possible sim only contracts they could offer and got offered...
500xnet mins for £10 a month but no texts...asked if I could get some texts as well and I woulld be more than happy. He said he couldnt do that and could only do a bolt on 100texts for £5 a month making it £15 after me politley asking if he could that for cheaper he said he couldnt but he could throw in a phone a samsung e3530 or a motorola V3 as well. I then pressed for more texts (I am a bit of a texter). final offer was
100xnet mins 500txts and either one of the above phones for £15 a month
I am still thinking about it as I wanted a K750i but he wanted 79.99 to let me have that one...which isnt surprising!
think im getting greedy now. I have been with o2 for 5 years. shame he couldnt offer me a couple of hundred txts with the original 500xnet mins offer for £10
still I think im on the way to getting a decent new contract0
