Wolfbane will tell you which transmitter is the strongest and in what direction to point your aerial, the type of aerial, links to a map etc . You also get an idea of the muliplex frequencies that contain the multiplexes. Sometimes these digital channels channels are similar to the existing analogue channels. They can also be at extreme channel numbers and require a different aerial type.
With a communual aerial you have little choice but to try a booster.
If you live close to a transmitter or have good line of sight then an indoor aerial may be the minimum recommended by the Wolfbane page.

    Hi guys,

thanks for all your help saved me hours trawling through internet sites.

in conclusion - i bought a cheap siganl booster (£8 Argos) - this helped the signal greatley but still had trouble recieving multiplex 2.

i fixed this by moving the booster - i connected it directly to the aerial wall socket (i guess the 3 meters of cable the signal was travelling through to the wall socket was weakening it) - this worked a treat i can now recive all channels (all multiplexes).

    cheers guys.

Cheap patch cables (ie the made up ones from argos etc) are often the worst culprits and may not be proper 75Ohm connections. Make up your own cable from the cables that fitters use (maplin do it) and good plugs and you may find the situation gets better

I have no problem with More 4 E4 ITV etc.. I have trouble with BBC 1, 2, 3 and News 24. I have an old ITV digital box (Phillips), they last for about a couple of weeks ,then go all pixalated. All other channels are fine. Any ideas/advice?
