Go to the proper post window ("post reply" not the little one at the bottom of the thread) and click on this button:

    createlink.gif

It asks you what to display for the link, and what the link is.

I haven't received any such emails yet but should I ever, the first thing I'd do would be to ring my bank to confirm. I wouldn't certainly reply to this sort of email with any "updates" of any kind. They'll have them from me over the phone if they want them.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

I sometimes open up these links and fill in the form with various four-letter words. I then get the response of "thank you for updating your details". Just to be on the safe-side I have very good firewall, anti-spyware and anti virus software just in case they try hack my system.

I have never actually received one of these scams from a company where I have a bank or savings account.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

That's what I was trying before. But it doesn't work for me. When I click, I get a window with a Type field and a URL field. That's it. I fill in the URL and it just puts it in the message. I never get the chance to enter the text I want to display to hide the URL. I have tried this with IE and Opera browsers.

You can just do it by code:

    [ URL=http://www.play.com/]www.hsbc.co.uk[ /URL]

    Obviously less the spaces.

You could try going to User CP -> Edit Options -> Message Editor Interface, and change the setting if you are on the most basic one.

Thanks. That seems to work. I was trying <a href> tags manually. I don't know why this site can't use normal HTML tags.

It's to prevent "cross site scripting".

For example i could have a javascript file on my server and rename it malicious.jpg. If I use the HTML IMG tag everyone who read my message would also have the javascript run. I could to anything from pinching your cookies to downloading a trojan.

but i am better than that :xmassmile
