There seems to be more and more bank phishing e-mails over the last few days. I have received at least a dozen in my various e-mail in-boxes, all from banks where I don't have an account. for example I have just received one supposedly from the Nat West. As you can see from the superb English it must be for real !
"The management presents you the apologies for temporary iinconveniences and expresses the thanks for co-operating" .What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
The link is a genuine link (links to personal Internet Banking), however HSBC will never communicate to their customers via email - due to phishing emails etc.0

I am afraid there are a lot of gullible (or stupid) people around. Did you see tonight's Watchdog ? Somebody on there had paid out over £40,000 because they had thought they had won the Spanish lottery (even though they had never bought a ticket) . It said on the programme that these scammers are raking in millions a year because there are stupid people aplenty. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Another thing to be aware of is the poor grammar in the mailing, this one's not so bad, but phrases such as "Please provide all these info completely.." and "...Internet Banking always look forward for the high security of our clients."
I know mine's not perfect, but if you read it again there are several phrases which don't sound right, and certainly would not be in a message the bank would send out.0 -
I get several of these every day - I get them from "NatWest", "Halifax", "HSBC", "Barclays" (yet, none from my real bank, Lloyds TSB).
They use the exact same wording for each one. :mad:0 -

Try using something like Netcraft Toolbar, these help prevent phishing.

One other thing to watch out for. You may see the correct web address of a company shown as a hyperlink like https://www.hsbc.co.uk so you might think it's safe to to click on it. But when you do click, it goes to some other site. This is easy for a scammer to set up in HTML. So if you do click on such a link, check the actual address when the site loads in the browser. It might be subtly different.
I wanted to demonstrate this (easy to do in HTML) but I don't know how to do HTML in these posts.Eh?? I give up!! Towel is getting thrown in here!0
