D600, need help!!

Hi,

I'm hoping that I'm just being a total idiot and someone in here can help me.

I have just got my upgrade, decided I was going to try a new trendy phone instead of sticking with the nice, safe nokia's. So I got my Samsug D600 the other day and I can honestly say I hate this phone. It's nice to look at but that's about as far as it goes.

When I get a message it lets me know but then I have to navigate through the menus to get to the unread mail instead of being given the option to just view it.

I can't seem to automatically save sent messages, this has to be done manually when you create a message and you don't have this option if you are replying to a message.

I can't change the message tones to anything other than the awful 10 supplied by samsung.

Am I just missing the options to do these things or is this phone that bad?

& I'm still using an old Samsung, but find it less confusing than the easy to use Nokias - guess it's maybe a case of getting used to it!!??

Hey,

You can tell I'm busy in work today!!

You can download and change ring tones, you just can't change messages tones and as sad as I am it's the only thing I actually customise on any phone I have had.

I'm wondering if it is maybe orange messing with the software or something but I have no idea.

That was lucky then, I have just refused delivery of the D600 from Orange and am off to 02 instead.

Got to disagree with you guys and say i really love this phone, ive had it for a couple of months and its so much better than my old samsung E800. You ask about saving messages all i every do is if im interupted whilst texting i just close the phone and then the message is saved in the drafts folder and you can go back and edit and send. As for receiving a message you are given the option to view with the left hand soft key when you receive the message. I find it a much easier phone to text from than the E800 because the key pad is so easy to use. So my recommendations would be give it a week or so get to know the phone a bit better and then if you still think its crap hopefully you can change it .........

Sorry to hijack the thread slightly, but do any of you know if you can have an mp3/mp4 file as a ringtone on a d600? If so, how do you do it?

you can have an mp3 as a ringtone but you cant have it as a message tone, which as odd as that sounds is my complaint. i dont bother changing the ring tones.

just put your mp3 in the "music" folder. then goto your settings and choose the file as your ringtone.

Thanks! It's not actually my phone - it's my other half's but he's lost the instruction booklet! I'm not sure he's entirely happy with it but he's taken out an 18-month contract so will have to get used to it!

Have you ever heard of an mp4 file? I'm sure that's what he said he's downloaded from somewhere?!

i have the d500 and i'm like you kingpuck regarding your d600 i hate my d500 i cant wait to end my contract and get a new phone i am definetely going back to nokia the only thing i like about this phone is the memory.... nowt else my kids nokia 3510i has better functions than this thing
