  • How do they get away with that!!
They quoted me £560, but obviously thats due to an inspection. Its more than I'd get for it if I sold it, as its running but probably needs an engine rebuild, and for scrap I've been quoted £100 at the most as prices are down at the moment!

webuyanycar offered me £810 and I took £750. Worked for me.
  • They did state on the follow up call that your under no bligation to accept the offer even after they have inspected the vehicle, so nothing makes me take it if I feel its to low, I've had nothing near that with the scrap yards I've contacted.
I was just slightly concerned about the BACS payment side of things, I'd rather get the money there and then!

Your call, barge pole and wouldn't touch spring to mind with that outfit, I have never known anybody get what they actually quote, sometimes they have received as little as about a quarter of their original offer.

Most of the cars offered on freecycle are no doubt taken to be weighed in by greedy people who have no interest in sorting out the car and using it. With the value of scrap metal - do what they'd do and put the money in your purse/wallet instead. Can be worth stripping for bits first and getting another of the same car as mentioned above as ArsenalFC says - as this will reduce your cost of the ownership of the next car and also give you an idea of how the bits and pieces come appart and go together - plus if you've removed one before - chances are you'll feel more confident replacing it yourself when something goes wrong on the next one meaning no need to pay a garage to do it.

Where can I sell my write-off for scrap?

What do I search for? Breakers yards or scrap metal dealers?
  • You'll not get much for scrap now, the prices have dropped significantly in the last few months.

Ebay is the best bet, just be honest and you'll sell it.
