Initial City Link Courier Service

I ordered a product from the internet company "E-Buyer" who then used Initial City Link to deliver my product. Delivery was set for Fri 02/12/05. There was no delivery. On Monday 05/12/05 I telephoned "E-buyer" who informed me that delivery had been attempted at 16.33 on Fri 02/12/05 and a card had been left in my letterbox. This was a blatent lie as I was in the house at this time along with 4 other people none of us saw or heard a delivery person and no card was left.

I then telephoned Initial City Link who informed me that they would be delivering that day(05/12/05). Again, there was no delivery.

I telephoned Initial City Link on 06/12/05. I was informed that there had been no attempt at delivery on 05/12/05 and was given an 0870 number to telephone. I dialled this number and was met with the message "this number does not exist".

I then telphoned "E-buyer"and spoke to Danny who phoned Initial City Link on my behalf. Danny was told that an attempt HAD been made to deliver on 05/12/05 but no card had been left.

I then telphoned Initial City Link to ask what time the delivery attempt had been made and was told 17.30 and that a card HAD been left. Again, I was in at this time and was looking out my window because I was waiting for delivery.

Upon checking the Initial City Link website and tracking my order number I then discovered that a delivery had been attempted on Monday 05/12/05 at 23.55 and a card had been left! Guess what? there was no card.

I have now cancelled my order with E-buyer who absolutely refused to refund postage, offering me a discount on any future orders. My how I laughed.

Avoid these clowns!!
Inside me there is a thin women screaming to get out.................so I shut the !!!!!! up with a biscuit.:D

I had similar problems with this courier which put me of buying from Ebuyer which is unfortunate because they are usually a pretty good company to deal with........providing you have no problems of course!

I now always look at what courier an online company uses before i order and if they use City link i go elsewhere.
  • They are the same in my area.

If i am ordering goods,i ask who will be delivering them,if it's ICL i go elsewhere (if i can).

I've bought things off ebuyer a few times and the delivery firm they use, Initial City Link are a complete nightmare, as you say.

Ebuyer generally give a "deliver by" date, but can deliver before the date given.
I've had the problem with CityLink attempting to deliver and leaving a card.
I've rang them to say "Don' deliver tomorrow, I'm out all day. Deliver the day after." Sure enough they attemped delivery when asked not to.
They only try twice then take the goods back to the depot and if you don't pick it up yourself after a week they send it back to ebuyer.
It's a shame, as ebuyer do have some good pricing, but the courier they use needs sacking.

E-Buyer would do so much better if they ditched City Link.

I would not consider buying anything from a company that uses City Link.

The problem is it varies from town to town.

In my ares ICL are great and I have never had any problems with them.

If ICL lie to you about attempted deliveries you can hardly blame ebuyer. They themself gets the information from ICL.

But if your contract is with ebuyer, it shouldn't really be the customers problem if a subcontractor is incompetent

I fall within the Poyle depot catchment area (my thoughts exactly; it's an industrial site near Heathrow). They would only hand the parcel over to someone at the address; the card made it clear it was not their policy to leave it with neighbours or inside the porch or anywhere else, even if you asked them to. As mentioned before, they will only try to deliver twice, then they take it back.

The low price of the goods was far outweighed by the inconvenience of having to travel in the evening after work to their depot to collect it. Being a budget firm, the depot had the grand total of two buses a day passing it (one in the morning taking people to work, one in the evening bringing them back) and was a good 40 minutes walk from the nearest station.

I too now ask companies who their courier is and if it's ICL, I go elsewhere, willing to pay up to about twenty pounds more for the convenience of a competent courier firm. Personally, I favour using Royal Mail or whatever they call themselves now. If I'm not in, they always leave a card, they're willing to leave it with neighbours or just somewhere out of sight, and their depots are in towns and cities, rather than ridiculous out-of-the-way industrial sites. Presumably this makes them more expensive that ICL.
