Premier, you are right. I bought 3 low energy bulbs in Wickes last week for 99p total. I had meant to post it but it slipped my mind. They had bayonet and screw fittings 100w and 60w equivalents - they were by the tills in the Banbury store
Was in Wilkinsons(normally cheapish) but the cheapest 100w equivalent there was 99pAwaiting a new sig0 -
Our housing association is going to giving five energy-saving bulbs to all their tenants soon, which means I'll have enough mercury filled energy-saving bulbs I don't need, to last for many many years (around year 2020 at normal usage) -- probably long beyond the time when LED bulbs are both cheaper, more efficient, and a helluva lot more environmentally friendly. In fact most people believe LED lighting will exceed CFL efficiency within the next two or three years which will make CFL bulbs not just energy wasteful, but also very polluting unless every one of them is recycled correctly.
Unless you need a low energy light-blub *NOW*, don't buy them. Much better alternatives will arrive in a few years, and all the low-energy bulbs you currently have will probably still be working.0
