No problems here. Is the first time you have topped up online through paypal ? If it is check your paypal account is not set up for echeque. The first time I topped up was by direct debit through paypal as this was option set on my paypal account as main funds for money. I had to change it to debit card so when I top up now it takes the money from my card insead.

  • Hi, I was having trouble topping up my Paypal Top-Up Card with funds from my Paypal account too.

I emailed Paypal twice and twice they responded with instructions on how to withdraw my Paypal funds into my bank account!?!? That wasn't what I asked.

Their customer service is polite but pretty useless.

I've managed to do it now though, I found the option was there all along but not very clear on the page.:j

Go to https://www.paypal.co.uk/topupcard, click on Account Manager, enter your card number and password, then click on the "Top Up" button and enter the amount you'd like to top-up by.

You'll then have to sign into your Paypal account and a new page will appear.

This is where I was going wrong, because if you read the page properly, where it says "funding source" it will have Paypal Account at the top with your secondary funding source immediately underneath, then followed by some smaller text pointing out that if you don't have sufficient funds in your Paypal account this secondary funding source will be used.

So just complete this page to top-up from your Paypal Account.

I must've looked at said page ten times before realizing. It's just not obvious enough!!! Big button needed, saying " Top-up from your Paypal account".

    Hope this helps!

Hi, did it take a few days for this 'top up' option to appear?
I've just got my card and activated it but the top up option is not there on the account manager page.

Did those having problems topping up, manage to work it out  It has me stumped.
I have money in my paypal acc and want to put it on my card but the only option it gives me is echeque. Nowhere on there does it offer me the option of topping up by paypal. I have emailed them and they are useless, they just said to phone them, which i cant do as my phone is on incoming only:mad:
    Any help appreciated

They sent me an e-mail saying my paypal account wasn't linked to the top up card. They said they couldn't take instructions by e-mail to link the accounts and I couldn't be bothered phoning but luckily you are allowed to have up to 2 of their cards in your own name so I got another one and made sure I filled in the application form correctly.

    Hello,

Here is my experience as an established user of the card.

I purchased/joined when the card was first launched. The main reason for joining was the time that paypal take when you want to transfer funds to your bank account. The paypal card seemed to be a faster alternative to my existing arrangments - NOT TRUE!

I am now on my 2nd card, the first one expired after 2 years. The new card was sent nearly 4 weeks late, but what else can you expect from these cowboys. I contacted PayPal many times. Each time I received conflicting information and various "fob offs", they simply didn't care, or didn't know what they were doing.

Their customer service for the card is the same as their normal paypal customer service, a complete joke.

Since signing up for the card I have made many transfers from my PayPal account to the card, which if you do before 12 midnight is supposed to reach your card by 2pm the following day. This often does not happen and is very unreliable. Contacting paypal is futile. PayPal give the same scripted reply, that "Royal Bank Of Scotland (who issue the card) have had problems to do with a batch transfer and it is their fault", tough luck mate!

I then decided to contact RBS. They deny all blame/liability and advise you to contact paypal. Back to square one. It seems that yet again paypal are untouchable.

COME ON THE FININCIAL SERVICES OMBUDSMAN - DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SHODDY SERVICE!

4 DAYS AND FUNDS STILL NOT REACHED MY CARD. FUNDS HAVE LEFT MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT AND NOT REACHED THE CARD, THEY ARE IN LIMBO, OR MORE LIKE EARNING INTEREST IN THE PAYPAL BANK.

ZERO HELP FROM PAYPAL OR RBS. IT'S ONLY £285.00 GBP BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. PAYPAL ARE EARNING MONEY FROM THIS. IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH IMAGINATION TO THINK HOW MUCH MONEY IS INVOLVED HERE WITH ALL OF THE OTHER POOR FOOLS LIKE ME WHO ARE AT THE MERCY PAYPAL.

ONE DAY THE POWERS THAT BE WILL HOPEFULLY TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK AT THE WHOLE PAYPAL OPERATION, I'M SURE THAT FRAUD IS RAMPANT THERE.

    AVOID AT ALL COST!

I AM GOING TO CONTACT WATCHDOG, THE UK T.V. CONSUMER PROGRAMME AND URGE ALL OTHER VICTIMS TO DO THE SAME AND VOICE THEIR EXPERIENCES.

    CONCLUSION:

    1) EXTREMELY POOR (NOT WORTH THE COST OF THE PHONE CALL) CUSTOMER SERVICE. DON'T BOTHER TO EMAIL, YOU WILL GET AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RECEIPT - AND THAT WHERE THE COMMUNICATION STOPS!

    2) NO FALLBACK FOR THE CONSUMER

    AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Well, my apologies over the caps but I needed to vent my utter discust over these issues.

    Thanks for reading.

    Dan.
  • Don't use PayPal then. The only silly people are the ones that continue to use them!
  • I would not use them however I sell a lot on ebay and am forced to use them!
  • What on earth made you resurrect this thread? Did you sign up just to comment on a 2 year old posting?!
  • I've had a paypal top up card for about a year now and all my top up's from my paypal account in the past have gone on the next day at around 2pm.....until today.

I topped up yesterday and kept checking the card today but nothing went on. At 4pm I called "customer service", was on hold for 25 minutes (it's an 0845 number too) only to be put through to someone who seemed to have less information on the problem than I did.

He said there was an unspecified problem and he didn't know when it was likely to be fixed. Great, thanks for that.

The funds are still not there now and it's 8:20pm. The upshot of it is, I have no gas on in the house now as I was relying on that money to feed the meter. No hot water, no heating, unable to use the cooker. I've got a 3 year old in the house too.

I've sent them an email to let them know how I feel about it but even as I sent it, I wondered what the point was. Even if it does get read by a human, it will be someone who has no actual ability to do anything about it and they won't care at all.

Paypal is my only option right now as I rely on payments through my website and if paypal decide to keep my money for longer than they should then there is not a damn thing I can do about it.
