i was wondering if anyone else is beta testing auctiva for the uk?
they've been having some problems with the checkout function but they appear to have fixed it
however last night one of my lovely repeat buyers (this guy just keeps coming back to buy more and more of my stuff
) sent me an email. because he bought 4 cd's over about a weeks time (waiting for auctions to end) to send him 4 seperate invoices (ebay wouldn't combine them even though i have it set at a week!) ebay allowed me to manually give him his postage discount on 3 of them and that was ok
but he was only able to pay for 2, and that was doing it manually! because he'd bought from me when auctiva was having the payment issues he tried paying me manually again for the other 2 cds that wouldn't go straight through ebay as normal. he kept getting the same error message along the lines of 'no account set up for this user ' etc etc (which he knows isn't true because he just paid that user and has done so already and received his goods for that round of payments!)
so now i'm wondering if this is more a paypal issue than an auctiva problem. obviously there's some sort of glitch getting through but if he went to paypal on his own and tried to pay me manually and he's getting this error surely that means it's paypals fault... or am i getting this all wrong?
has anyone else had this problem? any ideas? he finally had to call them to get the payments through and they are now pending. i will go ahead and send him those cd's as i know i can trust him (he's already bough 8 cd's from me and looking to buy a few more after i list them) but this is starting to put some buyers off and i have to keep sending details on how to pay manually! but if that doesn't work....
i am really loathe to quit using auctiva, i love how easy it is, how i can add up to 12 photo's in the listing for free and their templates are gorgeous...

A marvellous, free, add-on to eBay - makes putting up great looking auction so much easier.
HOLsale - I have doubled with Auctiva, before they introduced their version supporting ebay.co.uk. Am in somewhat 'dormant' state at present, so can't directly help you with your issue. Have you tried the Auctiva Help - a few months ago, they were incredibly responsive & cooperative. Not been in touch with them for a while, but I am sure they would be happy to hear from you.0 -
Hi
I hadn't heard of Auctiva until I saw this post - I am a very inexperienced e-bayer so do you think it would help me to use it?
I also wonder if peoplet hink it is worth using other auctions like QXL and eBid?
I take on board what people have said about using BIN now and will give that a go.
Then, when to start again after Christmas? Are people too broke to buy for a while?
Although I am inexperienced I have managed to sell a few things, but I have also got in trouble through some people messing me about. Although I try and read messages on here I guess there are some lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Anytips would be greatly appreciated however.
Best wishes to all.Stop looking for answers....

yes, i've been going to their forums and they are very good about getting right back to you despite the time differences
unfortunately all i'm getting is that they are working to resolve it...
personally i'm starting to think the problem is more on paypals side of thigns which may take ages to resolve! the fact that when the buyer went straight through to paypal's main page then tried to pay me manually and got the error message is what makes me think it's not actually auctivafounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -

auctiva makes it sooooooooooooooo easy and your auctions will look very professional!
first of all people want details and a good photo if you can't provide those you won't do very well. if you don't have a decent digital camera then if you have a scanner you can use that for most stuff.
be honest, if there is a bent bit a crack on a cd cover etc etc mention it but then play up the good things rahter than trying to talk down the flaw.
cover your ar*e! put your rules, your payment forms, everything in your auction so people dont' have a way to come back and bite you on the bum!
be very friendly with people even if they are jerks... nice 'em to death i say... do be firm though, it's possible to be firm and polite
i suggest starting with something easy like cd's etc. everyone's usually got a few of these lying around the house that they can sell off. search for the item an see what the going rate is. then click on 'advanced search' and tick the completed auctions box. this shows you what they've been going for or indeed if they've been selling at all. this is your best indication of what you can expect to get, price accordingly and you'll sell
you may well get people right after christmas spending their christmas money! i have a shop and plan to run a january sales page myself! i expect february might be a bit slow though
i think if you're selling luxury items they'll be sluggish for a few months after christmas, but if you're selling inexpensive items then you'll probably be ok though it won't likely be as busy as it has been for the last month in the christmas feeding frenzy...
we're here to help too so that's good

thanks so muchfor that Holsale. Do you use any of the other online auctions?Stop looking for answers....
The most you can hope for are clues.....:)0 -
no i don't i found them not that good because hardly anyone uses them
they'd be ok for things you couldn't sell on ebay and didn't mind having them sitting around the house until someone bought them from the other sites but you might be waiting ages!
still it suits some just not me
i do occasionally sell book via amazon which can be worth it... but again, sometimes the items have to sit around for a long time depends on how much space and patience you havefounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -
How do auctiva make their money - is it from you or from the buyers?0
-
they make their money by giving you an option to offer postal insurance in your listing. so far that i've used it that wasn't working yet for the uk but i shant bother with it except for when i start selling lp's then i think it might make a nice option
users aren't charged a penny :Tfounder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0
