Yes, its the age-old question brought up once again...
Dual Core v Quad Core
How must was the cheapest Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping processor you have seen? Where was it?
What is the best Dual Core Processor for value?
The processor will be used for gaming , programming (if that makes a difference), day to day usage etc... and hoping for it to last about 3-4 years.
Thanks,

Aria were doing the Q6600 G0 quite cheap recently. As to quad core for gaming, most games actually run faster on a single core and you can get some performance games by altering the properties of the games executable to tie it to one core.0

Aria has them at the moment on £127.31 inc. VAT.
The cheapest i have seen them was on ebay for £85 inc p&p.
Single Core > Quad Core?
Do you know why?0 -
Go for the Q660.
It's a wiser investment going multicore, especially for gaming.0 -
Ok. Any ideas of where to buy them?0

The usual suspects..
I'd say if you want longevity out of your purchase then go quad, it's the way the inertia of the industry is pushing things and it makes more sense to be prepared. For gaming, it's going to be important that you buy a good graphics card as that is where your performance bottleneck is going to be. If you want the best performance then I would consider a 64bit operating system also.0 -
wait there going to be a price fall ,the new socket is coming out in about 10 daysish(27th October on words) ,
thats when the new motherboard with the new socket on come out to buy put your looking at £250+ for them
so 775 socket stuff should get cheaper after that
