urgently need a cheap evening gown

...any ideas. Need it for a do next Saturday. I've tried most of the catalogues & high street stores, but no joy. It has to be ankle length & I don't really want to spend more than £50.
November wins...a book, a designer handbag (worth £550 :T) and a game. I am now an addict and thank everyone for taking the time to share and post. :D

    Charity shops?
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !
  • have you had a look in TK Max? They usually do a wide range of evening wear - you may find something suitable?
Or, if you have time & want to take a chance on sizes & it arriving in time, you may be able to find something on ebay on listings under cruise wear, evening gowns or bridesmaid dresses!

Good luck & enjoy your evening!

  • T K Maxx usually has evening wear all year. Often it is small sizes. Other suggestions ask in charity shops as they often keep things that they think seasonal in the back shop until the right time of year.

They are both £42 not including P&P

Do you like either of them?
  • How 'evening' are we talking, is this full length gown or cocktail dress???

I second the vote for TK Maxx, they can be hit or miss but always have quite a big selection of evening wear. Monsoon have a mid season sale at the mo too, they might have something.

  • Whereabouts are you? There's a Monsoon outlet shop at Bicester village - lots of evening dresses.
  • Def agree with TK Maxx - got my wedding dress for £39 there-though i was looking for towels at the time!Lovely beaded beautiful dress. Also try charity shops. got a black velvet and lace bay trading dress for £6 for a black tie do and got lots of comments.
  • At least TK maxx you're not likely to end up sitting next to someone wearing the same dress - debenhams is a bit dodgy for that! They do sometimes have nice dresses too.

Otherwise it's worth asking round mates etc, it's awful how little use evening dresses get. Second hand shops are worth a go too, ask around, some specialise in more fancy wear...
