Michelle - he probably hasn't brought any more into the house, but when he has calmed down, give him a cuddle & check for lumps. They usually attach around the head/ears (same place you find the rabbit fleas - best dealt with by squishing between your fingernails, so one important reason for long nails ;) ). Valli's right, lighter fluid is the best thing for killing them, so it might be worth stocking up. With that, meths or alcohol on a bit of kitchen roll or cotton wool, they'll just drop off and you don't have to worry about infection.

Emily - if its just years of accumulated dirt, just wash them every week and eventually the layers will come off. I've taken this approach with my oven, and over the last couple of months its got so much better. It should be pristine by charsanta.gif

More info needed please Emily... what kind of grot are we talking about?
and the pipes are? metal ie copper (I hope they are not lead:eek:) plastic?

BTW re the lighter fluid for ticks - obviously don't do it near naked flames and I can't remember where I learned that I think my sister's cat had ticks once...

  • How would we notice more other than when they look like that? They will look like that only smaller - as they feed on the blood they grow

Also, is he likely to have brought any in the house, should i be doing anything special to clean the house so the boys and us don't end up with something like that on us - i think i would cry. I am sat cringing as it is.
If he did bring in any and they have dropped off they wont be alive as they live on blood.
Unfortunately they do bite humans as well but you are more likely to catch them outside. once they have got a good grip on the animal they dont give up easily as you have already found out!
keep an eye on the wound and dab it with alcohol to keep it clean until it heals.
    toots xx

  • Emily - if they are metal i.e copper - then why not give them a gentle rub down with wire wool and paint them with gloss paint and they will be much easier to keep clean

boys are gross at times aren't they.

again, you guys are great, and i am a great big girly wuss. I guess paranoid because of having the babies in the house.

For those of you who weren't around then, when DS1 was 8 months old we got a major flea infestation of the cats - they picked them up before we went on holiday in the summer, and when we came home again it was the week of the great floods last year so basically i was distracted by all that, and by the time i noticed we were hopping. At the time DS1 was not crawling or sitting up by himself, and i kept finding fleas on him in his hair. It was horrible as i didn't know where to sit him while i dealt with it, then the naughty !!!!!!s brought some in again when DS2 was only a couple of weeks, and i found one on him hopping around in his blankets. So understandably, i am a bit freaked by parasitic gross things,

honestly, having these 2 cats has completely put me off having pets again as they are so much work to look after, and i can't keep on top of their health and watch the boys and get everything done.
