Let us know what they're like, as that's quite cheap. Make sure they're the real deal, a friend bought some razor blades off eBay and was disappointed with the quality, either fake or seconds.2p off is still 2p off!0 -

Ultrasonics not as good, but OK.
Oral B brought out their ultrasonic toothbrush to compete at the Sonicare price level. privately they admit their (Cheaper) oscillating rotating ones are the best. Studies back this up.
The ultrasonics are nowhere near as powerful as the ultrasonic tool we use to clean teeth.
The Boots offer seems really good at the moment. Don't try for cheaper heads for the Oral B electric brushes. It's a sure way to ruin a good cleaning action. If you can get real Oral B heads cheaper - that's different.
but how can you be so certain it's better than a sonicare? isn't sonicare more gentle also?0 -
There was a proper scientific test done a couple of years ago in which the Braun came out on top.
This was a large sample sort of thing, with different toothbrushes used.
I can't say that various upgrades or improvements put into place since then haven't changed anything, or that a particular toothbrush will suit everybody to the same degree.
The action of the ocillating/rotating Braun though, is a good efficient action. The Sonicare simply doesn't have the power to remove everything, although where it does clean it cleans well. (I have both, and I do loike the feeling after the Sonicare - it can tickle like mad though 'till you're used to it.)
Heads on the Sonicare are far more expensive, which might put people off replacing them as often as they should. Which will reflect poorly on it's efficiency.
Incidentally, whilst trying to find the test I was thinking of online, I found THIS which may be useful to some. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Thanks very useful info. I presume you're a dentist? My dentist gave me multiple injections for a root canal and blew my face up which I have never experienced before. I felt like a baloon. The idiot. Anyway, I just thought I'd share that with everyone. My dentist takes shortcuts wherever they can. I learnt the hard way how important it is to get a good dentist and I hope the NHS comes down hard on some of these cowboys (maybe in another life!)0 -
It is likely that your face blew up due to the infection associated with the root canal work and nothing to do with the injections

Actually, it blew up at around the same time as the injections were given which leads me to the conclusion that the jerk was sadistic enough to give me more injections. Quite peed off really.0 -
Did you ask your dentist why it had happened or did they explain??0
