For goodness sake -- we are all human beings. He might be earning a packet but you can be sure that money does not bring happiness ... I have worked in the poorest countries where I have seen the happiest children.

I think this man will be living with enough on his conscience. He nor his family deserve to be treated so badly - it is a nightmare to live like that. I have worked in protection work and seen people killed - it is not pretty and glib comments do not help.

Can you imagine how his wife and children feel receiving death threats - why do they deserve that or to fear their father being hurt.

It may change but so far no private GB person has been told they will actually lose their money. This might change and I hope it does not.

If this was just one isolated incident then one person might bear more responsibility but have you not noticed that banks are collapsing worldwide and we all bear some responsibility for accepting the extra credit cards, accepting the huge mortgages, cashing in on property boom (in "wealthy" countries like the UK), throw away society - Primark clothes - £3 for a year and throw it in the bin!!! All of this contributes but easy to blame one person rather than looking at ourselves.

It is easy to say we did not understand, not our responsibility ... but get real the world is now a different place to the one we grew up in and it should not just be a blame culture. There will be a new set of rules - we should have looked at what happened last time and realised with all the easy credit etc. where this was heading ....

There were some that predicted this but the rest of us were happy enough to cash in whilst the going was good and not question how or why ...

The world IS changing, it is changing so that suited "proffesionals" get more protection from prosecution than the person on the street. I suggest that "you" need to wake up and smell the coffee. this person is where the buck stops in cases of corporate collapse and "that" is the position HE put himself in. and as for suffering! if you have never been faced with a future devoid of the hard earned cash you worked for because of the GREED of the financial institutions , you have no right to make comparisons about what is fair or not. some people (me particularly) had NO credit debt, and thought because of legal protection, that we were safe from losing money by the Banks. when did you last read "you may lose savings if we screw up" on any bank small print!
  • Also one might like to ask why a man who obviously has enormous earnings should have as his registered address a small terraced house in gt Barford! His wife seems to be a Dentist and a JP! so it should be safe to assume they are "well off" "a small 134000 pound house in Gt Barford seems like a smart way to avoid losing anything substantial in any law suits.

Actually the drivelling liberalism of Megadishu has really !!!!ed me off. who does she think gets the blame if a worker is killed by not following safe practices at work? answer, the managing director! i believe the new expression is corporate manslaughter.

Furthermore, what does she call the harrassment perpetrated by the Bank on an individual who has "screwed up" their finances? letters threatening legal action, bailiffs etc!! why should Durrant be any different

I assume you're a saver in Landsbanki Guernsey. I just wanted to say that I have complete sympathy for the dreadful situation you are in and wish you all the best in the coming weeks and months. It will hopefully not be too long a haul for you and the others and you'll get all your money back.

I'd use every lawful means to get at the perpetrators of this as I think this case certainly touches on areas of banking practise and law that have not yet been tested in any courts ... which is I'm sure where this will end up.

Undoubtedly this man who was in charge of Icesave may justly be accused of screwing up the bank's finances. To go further and worst of all threaten him with violence is totally unjustifiable and analogous to 'road rage' something which is rightly condemned.

Amazing what you can find on the net.

(approx two thirds down the page)

A two story house extension for Mark and 'er in doors.

Long way from Guernsey I suppose.
That's just the way it is...
  • I'm getting my Icesave money back and feel very fortunate to do so.
Can't even imagine how desperate and bitter the Landsbanki Guernsey people must be feeling.
As for the comments of Megadishu, I couldn't give a toss about the feelings of the Sismey-Durrants. I'm with you Myfanwyclogau.

Just looked at his house on Google Earth. Blimey!
  • Thanks but no, we are not in Landsbanki Guernsey and my "benign and positive" thoughts go to those who are. we made online application for esaver account on 2nd Oct and Heritable cashed the cheque into their wholesale depositors account which is now frozen under administration. or to put it another way "Stolen".
