Anyone one with any taste out there?
Just had (mid warm oak) laminate flooring put down ,got a new chocolate leather suite wth Mapel furniture. And am now stumped as to what colour curtains - everything looks great just very neautral and bland.
Have seen some velvet duck egg blue curatains but a carpet that colour would be trashed in 5 mins with 3 kids
Any suggestins?

Duck egg sounds v.nice and light I know prob with kids but if you go too dark room will look dark.
Only other option is a tastefully rich red, but it will make room dark.
If it looks too bland in cream you could combine it with a mushroom type colour that always looks classy.0 -
Hi Newbie - thats my exact problem -the foor has realy opended the spcae up after two years of a grubby cream carpet (the house doctor has a lot to answer for!!!)
would a chocolate rug look wrong with the duck egg blue curtains? I've just seemn some super ones in the Grattan catalouge in cord and they look lush!0 -
I have seen this colour combination inc brown, cream and duck egg and it looks fantastic! the colours are really chic together. Normally everyone puts brown and cream on their own together and it looks the same boring combination as everyone elses room. This combo looks great, I ve seen it recently in a showhome and it is v.tasteful. Hope iVE helped u. xxx0

I would go for Stone coloured carpet and maybe curtains too with some print on it. Any dark coloured curtain is lightened by some print in lighter coloured. So maybe a brown curtain with cream or ivory print. You like prints? The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. :rolleyes:0

Duck egg blue would look brilliant with chocolate brown. We overdid with neutrals at one point, and found you had to inject some colour or it just looked plain boring. Cushions don't cost too much if you shop around, and can pull together the blue and brown. Try looking in places like the pier, or cargo. So many shoes, so little time....0

DD has just redecorated her living room. She has laminate flooring and got two new brown leather sofas.
She bought two lovely big table lamps and they were quite cheap - probably because they were green. But she worked her scheme round the lamps and painted the walls on either side of the chimney breast the same colour of green and the rest of the walls cream. I made new cushion covers for her in the same green. The fabric was cheap because it was the same (hideous) green. But d'ya know what? It looks fabulous.
Sometimes you have to be brave with colour, and so long as you don't use too much of it, it can work out well.0 -
Hi Jayne - love the neutal look in mags but looks a bit well brown in reality - My major problem is that I live in very riral Wales so no shops! - think I will have to go to Birmingham or Chester in the new year with some samples and have a realy good look
Meadowcat - have seen a gorgeous green carpet but hubby not keen on green say with all the brown will look like a tree!
Man has no imagination!0 -
Blessings3, in Chester the imaginatively entitled Rug Shop has just moved to opposite Tescos in Frodsham Street from the grosvenor precinct.
I bought a really nice red rug from there - it has a high wool content so was about £70 but they had some cheaper versions.
I've got the same colour flooring and sofas as you and have gone for cream paint except for victorian brick red paint in the alcoves either side of the fireplace, with red curtains and a red patterned rug to match.
Ours is mainly an evening room but has big light windows so it's not too dark in the daytime and doesn't matter too much at night.0 -

I would agree with your husband on that one. I sometimes find green a bit cold and sometimes too much like a garden. But you CAN find the balance. Have you tried the online Dulux site? They have a tool to paint a virtual room and figure out how it would look. Obviously, its not perfect and it wont turn out exactly the same way - but gives you an idea.
