I've had one attempt at sorting this out, but the first thing on the list which Cuddles's link pointed to didn't help. From memory the settings were as they should have been, but I still couldn't get out of safe mode.

However I did get myself to a position where I could print that information next time I boot into Safe Mode ... which is progress as DH has barely been home with his laptop!

I still don't understand why mine has suddenly gone stupid on me. We've had this TFT monitor plugged into the computer forever. DS3 says he hasn't changed anything, and I know I haven't, and I can't think that DH would have done either.

If this is a recent problem, and the monitor was previously working, boot into the safe mode options screen and select 'Last known good configuration' option.

Alternatively, boot into Windows XP safe mode and use a system restore point.

Yes, I wondered about that 'last known good configuration' option last time I tried Safe Mode.

I wonder what updates I've downloaded - I guess it could all be my fault!

But I'll leave it until hours of daylight, we don't often need to print at home and that's about all I use Windows for these days.

Update, a big thank you to Exo, booting into last know good config worked. I've downloaded more updates since then but it's still fine, so it shall remain as one of those unsolved mysteries ...

I can't for the life of me see how to change the refresh rate

    Hi Savvy_Sue

Glad you got it sorted. Thanks for the update.

I can't be specific on how to check this as it will vary on the graphics card and drivers in use.
In general terms, to open your display properties to check the screen refresh rate,
right click a blank area of desktop/ Properties/ Settings and see what options are shown. If you have an Advanced box, click on that and see what further options are displayed.

Which make and model graphics card are you using and is that shown on the General tab in Display Properties?
