Have I still got a BT line?

Options
Hi All,

Quick question, I pay my telephone line rental to Sky not BT, does this mean that I no longer have a BT line?

My reason for asking is I've just realised after nearly a year that Sky are charging me more for my broadband than I thought they were going to when I signed up originally. I thought I was paying £5 per month for the Mid package and I'm actually paying £17 p/m for the Connect package. Apparently I'm not in the right area for the Mid package and this would've been explained to me at the time.

I don't remember it being explained to me that way and stupidly enough I didn't check my paperwork and I've only just checked my bill online. Lesson learnt I can assure you but now I want out of the package and as an O2 mobile customer I can get a really good deal - only if I have a BT line.

Hope someone can help

Thanks

The line is still run by BT, as opposed to cable, but Sky have a marker on your line. You'll have to go back to BT for line rental to get o2 BB, but if you phone BT and tell them you are a previous customer and want to come back you won't have to pay recommection.

If your paying Sky Talk £10 a month line rental your line rental is not with BT.Although the line is still owned by BT.

Some Broadband Suppliers will say you must have a BT (British Telecommunications plc) compatible line in your home (a telephone line owned by BT).Others will require it to be billed by BT as well.

Sky normally require 30 days notice to cancel Sky Talk.

Thanks for your replies - have just had this reply from O2 and I'm happily v surprised:

Thank you for contacting O2 Broadband regarding our service.

Although you are paying your line rental to Sky, the way that the Sky service works means that they still pay BT for the line rental on your behalf.

Because of this, you would be free to have broadband with any provider you wished, all you would need to do is ask for a MAC key from Sky before you order so we can get this processed as quickly as possible.:rotfl:

Will be doing as they advise!

    Thanks again
  • Don't want to rain on your parade but if you are on Sky Connect - meaning you are in a non-LLU area, you may well end up paying £17.50 as well with O2.

Worth checking on the O2 site by using their availability checker :-)
