i do wonder though why its taken so long to short things out. how come ING came in and sorted another bank out yet the same didnt happen with icesave. also i guess the talks are happening rather than us just being able to fill in forms and get our money asap because of the passport comp scheme. if that wasnt in place and it was just a case of claiming from the goverment then all this time talking which is wasting time interms of ppl getting their money back wouldnt have happened. because before the goverment cover ther 16K they want to make sure that iceland really dont have the money to pay up as they have claimed

  • Then the lawyers could have got on with reclaiming monies owed by the Icelandic nation.

If lawyers get involved the case will drag on for ever whilst our learned friends pay themselves a fortune from the disputed assets :o

It'll be weeks before we get the claim form, the FSCS need to hire staff first to process the claims, oh and someone to design the form.

To be honest I'm a little sceptical.

I'm feeling similarly about the whole thing. I'm about to fire off my second letter of complaint in as many weeks to a bank. Much as would love all this to go smoothly, especially for those who have life savings etc in Icesave, I just don't see it happening like that.

For the time being I'm working on the assumption I won't see my ISA funds for a while yet. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong though, that'll teach me.

If the assets of various banks can't be sold off to pay or don't cover the depositors, maybe the UK government will pay the depositors and and take interest paying bonds for the relevant amount from Iceland. Whilst it isn't in a position to pay much right now, it would nevertheless be a debt due for repayment at some point. The UK government only finished paying debts back to the USA a few years ago for military equipment they gave us in World War 2!

The Dutch have reached agreement with Iceland - Iceland will compensate Dutch Icesave depositors up to 20,887 euros but the Dutch government will loan Iceland the money i.e. the Dutch government is paying the full amount up to 100,000 euros but have made sure the Iceland end up paying their share eventually - see links.

TBF I think that Icesave was build on 'shady ground' and was not in a very strong position but there is no doubt that the Media made the issue a lot worse and caused the crash to happen a lot quicker!

I have seen it suggested that the Icelandic economic miracle was based on money from the Russian Mafia.

    I'll design it:

    Name:
    Address:
    Postcode:
    Telephone:
    Icesave A/c No:
    Total balance:
    ISA balance:
    Please attach printed account summary.

    There's a few weeks saved.

That's the way our compensation should be working too. Darling made out we'd be compensated and he'd chase Iceland for the money afterwards. This has since turned out to be false.

maybe cause iceland have now admitted to him that they do have the money to fund the first 16k.so thats why talks are hap rather than just sending us the forms so comp can be claimed?? i just wish they would make their mind up
