Is deliberate miss-selling a widespread problem?/Broadband packages/bundles

Options
My experiences with various calls to providers certainly highlighted this for me.
In one instance We got the person to repeat 3 times what we were being offered, and when I rang back to confirm the next day found it was not correct.

Oh nothing That hasn't been sorted out,and sorted out to my advantage, but I just wondered.

First I rang talktalk- the prices they gave me were not correct (only found this out because a comparison site I rang told me.) They also asked me my mac code despite me telling them I was ringing around.Slipped this question in just afte asking my telephone number..

I then rang another company,( forget who). What i have noticed is,even when you say " I want 8mb and 40gb, with free DAYTIME calls and we can't have LLU" they offer me packages.Only when I question them do i find they have either quoted me for 16mb,which I can't utilise or have given me a (obviously lower price ) 10 gb ,and a package that doesn't include free daytime calls.

Last of all I rang Sky and my OH agreed a deal and 3 times got the adviser to repeat the deal with me writing it down,OH asked for confirmation of the prices agreed by email, and adviser said we could look at sky.com,it would be there (wasn't).I therefore rang sky yesterday and after some time (!) established that was not the price (but they agreed to knock some more money off as compensation now I have it even cheaper then the agreed deal which they couldn't technically do (how crazy is that) thanks

Also when I rang Uswitch they could only offer me a 10gb deal-NOTHING ELSE (yes really)
All I can say is question, question, question, double check and triple check BEFORE you are out of the 7 days cooling off period.Take names,id numbers, departments.Note the time and date..

Is this why so many people have problems.
Are advisers just tained to say anything to make the deal.
  • surely you are better asking here, or dedicated boards, for broadband deal advice? comparason sites such as uswitch only offer a select few providers, often not the better ones

I did ask advice here, but it was only the practical side of making lots of calls that taught me how they operate.
Can't believe Uswitch couldn't even offer me any deal, that's just lazy..

"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"
