Kaupthing Edge Chaps Transfers

Dear All

Well, what can I say. I am about to amaze you all as I have just been! On Tuesday of last week I transfered from Kaupthing to my nominated bank account. Obviously i'm still waiting for that to happen, but am feeling relieved. On Friday I contacted ING Direct concerned as to the whereabouts of my money. Surprisingly, they have just telephoned me (how they got my number is strange). A chap called Karl from ING recovery Dept said that all my money would be in my nominated account by Tuesday of next week, the latest, and wanted my transfer account details. He also said that he or one of his colleagues would be calling me on monday or tuesday to confirm that the transfer has taken place and that I should check my nominated account to see if the funds are there soon after they call. I am flabbergasted to say the least. All I can say is that ING are certainly on the ball, and unlike most banks, they are all working overtime at the week end to resolve all transferes as soon as possible. Efficient is an understatement. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

One very relieved MSE forum newby!

If you had already requested a transfer, why would someone call you up to ask for these details over the telephone? How did they verify that they were who they claimed to be?

Very odd! Kaupthing Edge do not hold phone numbers of a/c holders, only email and address and they already have your a/c details
  • ProgRock this has alarm bells ringing all over the place.

As others have pointed out, why would they need to take your account details? How did they get your 'phone number? Is it a cold-calling scam?

I'd speak to your own bank as soon as possible.
  • That is quite a clever scam, if that's what it is. These people are very slick.

I know that Kaupthing don't have numbers, but banks will phone you up - Natwest has contacted me before and i'm usually grateful for their call.

But, yeah, it does sound like your account is about to be emptied out by the wrong people. Even the name of the department - 'Recovery Department' - sounds fraudulent. Why would ING use a 'Recovery Department'? It is such a negative term to use in this situation. They want their customers to be reassured, and use of a name like 'Recovert Department' would have been avoided by a right-thinking bank - if there is such a thing - because it creates panic: customers would think the money is lost and that there is a 'Recovery Team' trying to find where it has gone. If I was you i'd phone ING to find out if there is such a thing as the 'Recovery Department'.

Contact ING immediately - no bank will EVER ask for account details by phone

Nobody else in the huge 60+ page thread of Kaupthing transfers (with over 200 people waiting for transfers to complete) has had a call from ING as far as Im aware, very very dodgy.

If I were you Id contact ING to check if they have in fact contacted you, if they haven't then get onto your bank sharpish and warn them of the situation.

Also if the money is going to be in there next Tuesday why would they be phoning you possibly Monday. Do not like the sound of any of the original posters comments.
  • Hoax/scam or a hoax post? No offence progrock, but as you say you are new to the boards and no history of posts, so you are an anonymous person out there in the ether.....

If you are genuine, I share the others comments: I doubt the call was.
  • however, I will correct one thing. I'm not so sure that KE doesn't hold phone numbers. I posted on here a few weeks back re. their customer service. I had an umprompted call from them. Or rather I 'secure messaged' them and 15 minutes later somebody from KE called me. I had not given them my phone number, so I must have logged a contact number with them when I opened the account?

I didn't say it but that crossed my mind as situations like this attract all sorts of people. If it is genuine I sincerely apologise.
